Summary
- Mortal Kombat 1 adds The Boys' Homelander as a DLC character, showcasing his brutal moves and Fatalities in a new trailer.
- Homelander brings a dark twist to the superhero genre with his sinister power, ego, and rage, similar to Injustice's Superman.
- NetherRealm captures Homelander's arrogance and brutality, along with his love of milk, in Mortal Kombat 1, set for release in June.
Mortal Kombat 1’s guest DLC character is the villainous Homelander from The Boys, and players have just gotten a sample of his fearsome power with a new trailer highlighting his devastating move set and Fatalities. Mortal Kombat 1 continues NetherRealm’s penchant for adding characters from popular comics, TV shows, movies, and other video games to its fighting rosters, with Invincible’s Omni-Man and DC’s Peacemaker battling it out with Mortal Kombat 1’s Quan Chi and Ermac as part of the game’s post-launch Kombat Pack 1.
Earlier this month, Mortal Kombat 1 released a reveal trailer for Homelander, giving gamers a brief taste of the sinister “hero” in action against Fire God Liu Kang. Just like the Injustice version of Superman and the previously mentioned MK 1 guest character Omni-Man, Homelander is a dark and twisted take on the standard comic book superhero, combining incredible raw power with unchecked ego and rage to create a nightmare for anyone unlucky enough to defy him and the Vought-American corporation he works for.
Earlier this week, the full Mortal Kombat 1 Homelander gameplay trailer was released on the official Mortal Kombat YouTube channel, with the latest DLC combatant demonstrating his moves against both Liu Kang and Kitana. Overall, Homelander’s fighting style looks similar to Injustice’s Superman, with Homelander using flight, superhuman strength, and laser vision to pummel his opponents into submission. His X-Ray Move involves punching his opponent into the air before firing lasers directly into their gut. Finally, his Fatalities see him throwing his unlucky foe into an airplane’s turbine and using his laser vision to gruesomely slice his enemy to pieces.
Mortal Kombat 1 Homelander and Ferra Release Dates
- Homelander (Early Access): June 4, 2024
- Ferra: June 2024
From what has been shown so far, it seems that NetherRealm is doing a great job of capturing Homelander’s arrogance and brutality in Mortal Kombat 1, with Mortal Kombat 11 Terminator voice actor Chris Cox snarling with contempt during Homelander’s pre-fight interactions. His disturbing and meme-generating love of milk is also reflected in Mortal Kombat 1, and his Fatalities are inspired by some of his most memorable moments from the hit live-action The Boys series.
Homelander won’t be the only new addition to Mortal Kombat 1 in June, as the recent trailer also featured the upcoming Kameo Fighter Ferra. Introduced in Mortal Kombat 10 alongside her partner Torr, Ferra served as a personal bodyguard to Kotal Khan. In Mortal Kombat 1, Ferra is by herself, seemingly granting her partner status buffs before being thrown as a projectile weapon against their opponent. Ferra will be added to Mortal Kombat 1 sometime in June, while players will be able to take command as Homelander in early access on June 4.
