Introduced in the very first Mortal Kombat game all the way back in 1992, Fatalities are one of the biggest reasons why Mortal Kombat stood out back in the day among the rest of the fighting game scene. A finishing move that sees the player-character brutally murder their opponent in some horrendously gory fashion, Fatalities are a staple of the franchise, and Mortal Kombat 1 already seems like it'll be home to some of the best and goriest in the entire series.

Johnny Cage's Face Smash Fatality

Starting things off with a horrifying bang, Johnny Cage's Face Smash Fatality may be the viscerally brutal finishing move Mortal Kombat 1 has revealed so far. While Mortal Kombat is home to plenty of over-the-top finishers, it's often the more subtle, realistic ones that get the most gut-wrenching reaction, and that's exactly what Johnny Cage's new Face Smash Fatality is. This move sees Johnny approach his downed opponent, and proceed to repeatedly smash their face against the floor, pulling up their head to reveal that their entire face has come off.

Kenshi's Blended Fatality

Another disgustingly visceral Mortal Kombat 1 Fatality, Kenshi's Blended finisher sees the blind swordsman suspend his opponent in midair. From there, Kenshi telekinetically holds his sword above their face, and begins spinning it. The sword then slowly enters the opponent's mouth, presumably dicing up their insides, before coming back out and being used to slice them in half.

Liu Kang's Black Hole Fatality

By far one of the most impressive Fatalities ever seen, Mortal Kombat 1's Liu Kang Black Hole finisher sees the character push his new Elder God powers to the limit. After taking his opponent into space, Liu Kang channels his inner Thanos, snapping his fingers and creating a mesmerizing black hole behind his opponent. As Liu Kang slowly pushes them into the void, his opponent's skin, bones, and muscle slowly get sucked into the black hole.

Sub-Zero's Hairline Fracture Fatality

One of the more simple Fatalities confirmed for Mortal Kombat 1, but definitely one of the goriest, is Sub-Zero's Hairline Fracture finisher. After freezing his opponent in place, Sub-Zero slices their abdomen and throws an ice boomerang behind them. As the boomerang makes its return, it turns into a gigantic ice spike, which lands right into the opponent's skull at a vertical angle. As the foe's body starts to slide lifelessly down the ice spike, their lower half splits away from the top, revealing their insides. Though it isn't a huge spectacle, this Sub-Zero Fatality is notable for its terrifyingly realistic sound effects, with each squelch and thud bringing a churning feeling to the player's stomach.

Li Mei's Fireworks Fatality

One of the most recent Fatalities to be shown, Mortal Kombat 1's Li Mei Fireworks finisher is both gruesome and spectacular. After ripping out her opponent's intestines, Li Mei jumps backwards, and uses her pink magic to light the end of the intestine as a kind of fuse. The magic travels along the intestine, and just before it reaches the opponent's body, Li Mei kicks their head into the air, letting it explode in an array of colorful, bloody fireworks.
