The last few entries in Mortal Kombat have seen combatants from other franchises crossover into the fighting game series, and it appears Mortal Kombat 1 will continue this trend as Homelander may have been accidentally confirmed as one of the DLC characters. Previous games have seen names such as Rambo, The Terminator, Jason Vorhees, and Kratos join the Mortal Kombat universe, pitting their lethal skills against mainstays like Raiden, Johnny Cage, and Mileena. There are already several leaks suggesting who will be seen in the newest game's launch roster and will join in the subsequent DLC along with Homelander, though it appears Billy Butcher's archenemy is the only one seemingly set in stone.
Mortal Kombat 1 will serve as a reboot of the long-running fighting game series' narrative and will be the second reboot in franchise history following 2011's Mortal Kombat. The new game will take place in the new timeline Fire God Liu Kang has created following the defeat of Kronika in Mortal Kombat 11, resulting in a very different world occupied by some very familiar faces. At launch, the game will reportedly feature 24 playable fighters on the main roster along with 16 Kameo fighters to provide assistance during fights, while additional characters will be added to both rosters in subsequent DLC releases.
As with more recent Mortal Kombat games, the new entry's DLC will reportedly include several third-party characters, with one of the most notable rumored to be Homelander, one of the main antagonists from The Boys comic and TV series. The character's name appeared as part of an alleged leak from an Amazon Italy page also listing Peacemaker and Omni-Man as DLC characters, though this hasn't been confirmed, and the page has since been deleted. However, it appears Amazon's official social media account for The Boys may have accidentally confirmed Homelander's inclusion after responding to a TikTok post that was quickly shared on the MortalKombatLeaks subreddit.
The original TikTok post was in response to a new Homelander skin coming to Call of Duty, along with skins of fellow Seven members Starlight and Black Noir. These skins will be based on the likenesses of actors Anthony Starr, Erin Moriarty, and Nathan Mitchell, who portray their respective characters in the popular Amazon Prime series.
While there is still no direct confirmation from NetherRealm studios about Homelander's possible inclusion, other Reddit users were quick to suggest the post may indirectly confirm the Mortal Kombat 1 Amazon Italy DLC leak as legitimate. It would mean Omni-Man and Peacemaker are set as well, along with the potentially returning Quan Chi, Takeda, and Ermac. Ultimately though, only time will tell if any of this is true and if the leader of The Seven will bring his lethal tendencies to Mortal Kombat 1.
Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled to release September 19, 2023, for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
