Best Mortal Kombat Games For Beginners, Ranked

Mortal Kombat can be jarring for first-time players, but thankfully there are multiple places to start with before branching out for more fatalities.

It's clear NeatherRealm had a blast creating these vibrant and quirky outfits for the latest Mortal Kombat game, and since they're exclusive to the Definitive Edition, many fans are eager to get their hands on them. From a purely visual perspective, here is how each of the new movie skins in the Mortal Kombat 1 Definitive Edition stacks up against one another.

6 Johnny Cage

Johnny's New Outfit Is A Bit Basic, But Still Fitting For The Character

Johhny Cage movie skin

The new movie skin for Johnny Cage doesn't change up his usual formula all that much, but it's still a nice addition to the movie star's collection nonetheless. With a snazzy brown jacket and a blacked-out pair of shades, Johnny looks like he's just walked out of a fresh acting gig. The CAGE belt and slick faded haircut are also nice additions, which go a long way in making the skin eye-catching.

This is admittedly a lot more of a basic look for Johnny, which doesn't go too over the top in its presentation. It provides a nice breath of fresh air from his usual flashy outfits, which he's known for wearing. It's maybe not one of his best, but it's still a skin worth trying out regardless.

5 Scorpion

Scorpion Fans Can Enjoy A Badass Hooded Variant Fitted With Glistening Armor Pads

MK2 Movie Scoprion skin

The face of Mortal Kombat has obtained plenty of amazing skins over the course of Mortal Kombat 1's lifespan, but this might just be one of the best yet. Scorpion's movie skin is packed full of small details, such as the lightly spiked shoulder pads and a belt that resembles his rope-dart, but it's also nice to have a skin that includes a hood, throwing back to some of the character's most iconic designs in the series.

3

This is a much more heavily armored variant of Scorpion compared to his original skin, giving the deadly ninja a menacing aura that fans of the character will no doubt love to use in-game. While there could have been more added to Scorpion's face, such as glowing eyes or markings, it's still a great skin for this immensely popular fighter.

4 Kitana

Kitana Throws On An Elegantly Practical Outfit For The Next Fight

Kitana movie skin

Most of Kitana's outfits feel very classy, if not outright elegant, and while this one does give off royalty vibes, it's also much more practical than some of her other choices. There are some very neat additions scattered around Kitana's new glossy blue armor, including a pair of spider webs and butterfly wings, lending itself to the dangerous yet delicate persona that Kitana puts on.

It's also hard to ignore the giant steel necklace underneath Kitana's mask, ensuring she's fully prepared for any lethal attacks that might be thrown her way in battle. Needless to say, NetherRealm knocked it out of the park with this stunning new Kitana movie skin.

3 Sub-Zero

A Stripped-Down Yet Intimidating Look For Scorpion's Frosty Rival

Sub Zero movie skin

Sub-Zero enters the fray with a deep blue armor set that contains an entire plate of shiny chainmail at its center, alongside tipped shoulder pads and a sturdy pair of bracers. Though the skin is pretty minimalist compared to most Sub-Zero cosmetics, it really stands out for how grounded and gritty it is, providing Sub-Zero mains with yet another fantastic alternative for the character.

The many Mortal Kombat timelines have introduced various gods into the lore, with examples like Raiden and Fire God Liu Kang being among the strongest

Of course, the color palette feeds into Sub-Zero's ice-based fighting style, though it's not quite as vibrant or flashy as his basic skins in Mortal Kombat 1 and 11. Instead, this skin harkens back to the darker aesthetic of the early games in the series, making it a real standout in Sub-Zero's wardrobe.

2 General Shao

Shao Dons His Classic Armor Set With A Few Modernized Additions

Shao Khan movie skin

While General Shao is a great character in his own right, it's hard to beat the classic overarching villain of the franchise, Shao Khan. This skin clearly takes a lot of inspiration from the warlords' original outfits, especially with the traditional steel helmet. Still, there are a ton of tweaks and new ornaments that help it stand as something new and unique.

Whether it's the devilish shining helmet or the giant shoulder and kneepads, there's a lot to love about the latest General Shao skin. Those who were hoping to get a skin that is a little more reminiscent of Shao Khan's first years as a maniacal warlord have a brand-new option that certainly fits the description.

1 Liu Kang

Liu Kang Takes Some Fashion Inspiration From A Martial Arts Legend

Liu Kang movie skin

It's honestly a little odd to see Liu Kang looking like a regular human, considering he's either been undead or a Fire God in the last two games, but this skin kicks it old school. Liu Kang throws on the iconic bright yellow and black tracksuit often worn by martial arts legend Bruce Lee. However, Liu still retains his glowing white eyes, just to remind players of his god-like persona and unparalleled strength.

Considering Liu Kang is a close-range hand-to-hand fighter, this skin fits him like a glove. Keeping his hair short also makes Liu look much younger, allowing players to try him in more casual attire. Liu Kang is going to look truly awesome bicycle kicking his opponents into smithereens with this skin equipped.
