All Fatalities Confirmed for Mortal Kombat 1

Over the last three decades, the Mortal Kombat franchise has managed to set itself apart from an increasingly competitive market by giving players a few key features that they can't get anywhere else. While any fighting game can deliver a large roster of unique characters, and offer a bevy of stages to brawl on, not every fighting game can achieve the same level of brutal, visceral action that Mortal Kombat can, and that's certainly going to be the case with the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1.

The Mortal Kombat franchise has always prided itself on its bloody and violent combat, and the Mortal Kombat series' gory Fatalities are the greatest examples of this. Coming right at the end of the fight, after the player has beaten their opponent to a bloody pulp, Mortal Kombat prompts them to "Finish" their foe, and if the right buttons are pressed, then the player will launch into some kind of flashy gore fest, humiliating their opponent with some of the most violent animations ever put to screen. Though only a few trailers have been released so far, it seems as though Mortal Kombat 1 isn't shying away from the series' blood-soaked roots, with plenty of Fatalities already confirmed.

From the trailers released so far, it seems as though Mortal Kombat 1 might have both some of the most brutal and campy Fatalities in franchise history. In the former category lies Fatalities like Johnny Cage's Face Smash finisher, in which the movie star slams an opponent's face into the ground with so much force that it explodes upon impact, leaving nothing but bone fragments and gallons of blood. Kenshi's Blended Fatality is similarly realistic and horrifying, with the blind swordsman using his psychic powers to lock his enemy in place and force them to swallow his spinning sword.

But for those who prefer a more tongue-in-cheek finisher, Mortal Kombat 1 seems to have plenty of those up its blood-stained sleeves as well. Sonya Blade's Kiss Fatality is a great example of this, with the character sending out a bright pink love heart to her opponent that, upon contact, sets them ablaze and leaves them in a pile of ashes.

It's still incredibly gory, but at least finishers like this feel a little more silly and fun than those focused purely on showing the player the most heinous acts imaginable. Mortal Kombat 1's new Kameo Fighter system is also playing a major role in the game's Fatalities. While some of these characters won't be fully playable, they will seemingly still have at least one Fatality that players can use if they're fighting alongside them.

For example, players are able to call on Kano's Kameo Fighter at the end of the match to deliver his disturbing Heart Pull Fatality that sees him literally rip the heart of his opponent's chest Temple of Doom-style. A lot of these Kameo Fatalities are also references to previous games in the franchise, such as Jax's Big Boot Fatality, which sees him grow into a giant and stomp his opponent into the ground.

As if that wasn't enough, Mortal Kombat 1 will also be bringing back Brutalities, which are activated by performing a special combo that takes off an opponent's last portion of health. In the gameplay released so far, fans can spot a Kenshi Brutality that slices his opponent's head clean off. Mortal Kombat 1 is also bringing back Quitalities, a finisher first introduced in Mortal Kombat X that occurs when an opponent rage-quits from an online match, usually causing their character to self-destruct or snap their own neck.
