Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab shared his thoughts on Zack Snyder's movies in the DCEU, and his comments are not high praise for the films.

Snyder's DCEU films are divisive, with some fans thinking they ruined the DCEU and didn’t stay faithful to how the characters were portrayed in the comics. Other DC fans believe the Snyderverse is the best film adaptation of DC characters. Although a Warner Bros. Executive said Snyder's Snyderverse films were profitable, the company still decided to change the direction of their future films to be more light-hearted, eventually leading to James Gunn being named Co-CEO of DC Studios with Peter Safran and rebooting the DCEU into the DCU.

Snyderverse Fans Launch New Campaign For Cut Zack Snyder's Justice League Scene

Zack Snyder's Justice League couldn't use a classic DC character in a scene due to Warner Bros.' Plans, but Snyderverse fans want the sequence back.

In an interview with Arabic Marvel (translation provided by The Cosmic Circus), Moon Knight director Diab was asked about his feelings on Gunn's DCU. “I know that some people don’t like James Gunn, but I see him as a great artist who will do great work,” Diab said. He added, “[I] didn’t like the past period. The last film, Justice League, was significantly better than the first version, but in the end, Snyder's work in all the movies he made didn’t appeal to me.”

After commenting about how he felt about Snyder and his DC movies, Diab discussed his faith in Gunn's plans for the DCU. “I liked James Gunn's films much more. I think he’s a much greater artist and a very clever writer, and he will do excellent work for DC.” Diab had concerns about Gunn's DCU reboot, adding, “I hope people won’t just criticize him because if he loses the DC audience, he’s done. But he is an artist, and he will create wonderful things.”

Moon Knight received critical acclaim with one of the best Disney Plus Marvel series finales. He is a talented director, and his criticisms of Snyder's films were not as harsh as his comments on Wonder Woman 1984 and Black Adam, which he believed did not have enough talent from his home country of Egypt.

Diab's high praise for Gunn and his DCU is more important than his criticism of Snyder's films. DC fans should be excited about Gunn's plans as more and more creatives express their excitement for what is coming from Gunn's DCU projects.

Moon Knight is available on Disney Plus.
