Monument Valley 3: How To Solve The Inverted Palace Puzzle (Chapter 8)

Ustwo Games’ Monument Valley 3 continues the series' tradition of beautiful stories and creative puzzles. As Noor, a young protagonist, you begin your journey learning to keep the Lighthouse lit through Sacred Light with guidance from your mentor. Sadly, the mentor is lost to darkness in Chapter Five, The Temple.

The Inverted Palace Puzzle in Chapter Eight is where Noor meets her mentor's soul and learns about an upcoming responsibility — rescuing lost villagers and a special character called The Nomad, though she won’t fully understand it until later chapters. The level eight puzzle features an upside-down palace with complex structures and cozy scenery. With that in mind, this guide will help you learn how to solve the Inverted Palace Puzzle (level 8) in Monument Valley 3.

How To Solve The Inverted Palace Puzzle In Monument Valley 3

The Inverted Palace Puzzle has three calming parts that make you stop and think. Like other Monument Valley 3 levels, it’s full of tricky optical illusions that mess with the rules of physics. Here’s how to solve all parts of this puzzle in the game.

Part 1: Light And Darkness

In Part One of the Inverted Palace Puzzle, you’ll find yourself standing in a unique palace, half submerged in morning light and flipped upside down into the night. Your goal here is to enter the red door that will appear at the end. To solve this part:

1. Move the blue and pink gear to align the tiles and create a path.
2. Cross the bridge and head toward the palace door on the right.
3. Upon entering, you’ll be on the night side of the palace. Move the gear to the left to extend the path and reach the lightning window.
4. Shift the gear to the left to connect the path, then step onto the green button.
5. Now, move the gear to the right to connect the path to the door in night mode, and enter it.
6. You'll now be back on the morning side. Shift the gear to the left, cross the track, climb the stairs, and enter the final door at the top.

Part 2: The Inverted Palace

The second part of this Netflix exclusive puzzle is a bit more challenging, with two halves of the castle standing opposite to each other. Your aim is to reach the red door once again. Here’s how to solve this part:

1. Walk to the right side of the stairs, climb down, and go through the door to the next area. You'll find a yellow button — step on it.
2. A pillar will appear. Tap it to grab it and shift it to the top to connect the two halves of the palace.
3. Head back to the top door. You'll be flipped upside-down. Climb, then move through the upturn gate on the left side.
4. On the inverted side, press the yellow button, pull the pillar back, and return to the front door.
5. Now, simply walk into the big red door.

Part 3: Reunion With The Master

In the final part of level eight in Monument Valley 3, you'll enter a dark seaside setting, with a red moon and black waves, where the mysterious mentor is waiting for Noor. This is how you can reach him and solve this section:

1. Start by taking the path on the right side of the black tiles. As you move, new tiles will appear while others vanish.
2. Get past the zigzag track, then keep walking straight. When you reach the end, turn toward the sky-blue button and stand on it.
3. A short cutscene will play, revealing a new structure. Now, move the entire building from the three sky blue circles below, two times to the left, until you see stairs appear at the back.
4. Climb the stairs and go up. Shift the structure two times again to the left.
5. Walk toward the wall, and at the top, move the structure two times to the right.
6. Go down the stairs and press the blue button.
7. A red door will show up in front of you on the right. Simply get in.

In the end, a cutscene will trigger, where the mentor will offer some wise words to Noor, hinting at the thrilling adventure that awaits her.
