There's a new beast stalking around Monster Hunter: World, and it's a vicious one. Known as the World Eater, the Deviljho is the first new monster added to Monster Hunter: World since its release. As usual, for a chance to hunt this new prey, players are first going to have to do a little research. We'll walk you through the steps required to find the monster, so you can unlock the appropriate quest and take it down.
First and foremost, hunters will have had to complete the "Old Monsters in the New World" quest and have a Hunter Rank of at least 12 to be able to begin. Once this is accomplished, eventually you will get a notice saying there has been a Deviljho sighting. This is the time to check the world map and look for a??? Monster icon.
Head to the location with that icon and start looking for the monster. Once you track the Deviljho, or are confronted with the beast in person, head back to Astera and look for a group of three researchers. They will be located to the right of the quest board, and one of them will have a blue exclamation mark above his head. Speak with them and a cutscene will start, after which you will be asked to investigate the Deviljho.
Veterans should know the drill by now, it's time to go out in the world and collect some samples. Either engage in an expedition alone or join a few quests, but just remember to collect footprints and anything else that will increase your Deviljho research along the way. Bear in mind that the samples will not be labeled as "Deviljho", and will attract the attention of green Scoutflies, not blue. Once you get a notice that there is a new investigation, head back to the three researchers and speak with them. This will unlock the Deviljho special investigation called "The Food Chain Dominator".
Finish the special investigation and head back. Speak with the researchers again to unlock the Dragonproof Mantle, as well as the optional quest "Today's Special: Hunter Flambe". The rest is in your capable hands, hunters.
As for what's next in Monster Hunter: World, the game will see another first in a couple weeks with its first seasonal event, Spring Blossom Fest. This event will celebrate the coming of warmer weather and the blooming of flora with a colorful makeover to the Gathering Hall, which will be covered in an assortment of flowers. The NPCs will be dressed in Spring-inspired attire and the night sky will light up with booming fireworks.
There's no word on any additional monster being added to the game just yet, but we certainly hope that Capcom will think outside the box, possibly including some well-known monsters from other franchises. Ever imagine the armor and weapons you could make from Godzilla? We have, and we even put together a list of the top 10 crossover monsters we'd love to see (and hunt) in Monster Hunter: World.
Monster Hunter World is available now for PS4 and Xbox One with a PC release planned for later this year.
