  • Sony unveils a special Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 controller and console cover, but they may only be available in Japan.
  • PlayStation 5 offers limited edition DualSense controllers based on popular games.
  • The Monster Hunter Wilds accessories release coincides with the game's launch on February 28, but potential availability in other regions is uncertain.

A new limited edition Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 controller and a console cover have been revealed by Sony, but they seem to only be available in Japan. Monster Hunter Wilds is the next entry in Capcom's beloved action-RPG franchise. It's already become one of the most highly anticipated 2025 games.

While not as robust as Xbox's controller customization options, Sony has expanded its available controller styles with a handful of limited edition PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers based off its popular games. Currently, PlayStation offers Fortnite, Astro Bot, and Concord-themed controllers, as well as one that celebrates the gaming brand's 30th anniversary. Unfortunately, the PS5 currently offers only a handful of color options for owners who want to spice up the console's look with covers; none of them are themed after any popular game franchises, Sony first-party or otherwise.

8 Biggest Changes Coming in Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds is essentially the sequel to Monster Hunter World, but there are a lot of things changing between these two games.

Now, it seems Sony is adding some more flair to the PlayStation 5's customization options with the help of Capcom's upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. A new special edition DualSense controller along with a PS5 cover themed after the open world beast-slaying RPG have been unveiled by Sony. The controller is Volcanic Red with the Forbidden Area Research Team logo gracing the touchpad and flower-like patterns populating the handles. The Midnight Black PS5 cover is much more subtle, with the same logo in the lower corner of the plate. The release of both pieces will coincide with Monster Hunter Wilds' launch on February 28, but seemingly only in Japan.

Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 Accessories Might Be Japan Exclusives

Considering how slim the PlayStation 5's customization options already are compared to Xbox, it would surely be disappointing if these Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 accessories were exclusive to fans in Japan. Since the game is still about four months out from release, it's perhaps still possible that Sony could be planning to confirm the controller and cover for other regions as February 28 draws nearer. Capcom is a Japanese company, and while the Astro Bot PS5 controller, a game made by a Japanese studio in Team Asobi, was made widely available, Astro is a first-party mascot for the PlayStation brand; Monster Hunter is a third-party franchise and not as closely associated with PlayStation worldwide.

Monster Hunter Wilds is set to share February 2025 with a head-spinning number of other massive games. If nothing changes before February, Civilization 7, Avowed, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii are all releasing before Monster Hunter Wilds drops on the 28th. There will surely be a ton for gamers to enjoy in February provided none of these games get shifted out of the month to avoid one another.
