Fans of the popular Japanese action RPG series Monster Hunter can expect to hear more news about the franchise's next mainline game, Monster Hunter Wilds, later in 2024, according to developer and publisher Capcom. The announcement comes as the series prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary this year.

Capcom released Monster Hunter's eponymous debut title for the PlayStation 2 all the way back in March 2004. Since then, the series has only grown, peaking with the massively successful Monster Hunter: World from 2018 that has sold an estimated 19 million units worldwide. The franchise's next major installment is Monster Hunter Wilds, and fans will supposedly be able to learn more about the upcoming title soon.

In a recent video statement welcoming the new year, longtime Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto claimed that the next announcement for Monster Hunter Wilds should come out in summer 2024. Tsujimoto, who took the time to thank fans and ask for their continued support, also revealed that the team is deep in development and working towards the game's release. Capcom gave a 2025 release date when Monster Hunter Wilds was first shown off to the world at The Game Awards 2023.

When Can Fans Expect News About Monster Hunter Wilds?

  • Summer 2024

Not a lot of information regarding the highly anticipated Monster Hunter title has been released so far, and it was speculated that Monster Hunter Wilds would stay in the shadows for most of 2024 so Capcom could concentrate on the March release of Dragon's Dogma 2. Such a move could ultimately benefit Monster Hunter Wilds as it would not draw out the game's marketing and potentially lose the attention of gamers.

Despite not having too much to work with, Monster Hunter fans have been able to piece together a few pieces of information from what little the Monster Hunter Wilds trailer revealed. For example, the announcement video at least helped confirm the identity of one of the monsters that will most certainly appear in Monster Hunter Wilds, Rathalos. The large, dragon-like creature is the most recognizable beast in the entire Monster Hunter franchise, and it is liked by fans for the armor set it provides.

Capcom’s reveal trailer also showed that Monster Hunter Wilds could have dynamic weather events, a feature that would drastically change the Monster Hunter experience if implemented. Any veteran of the series knows the importance of preparation prior to a hunt, and that includes factoring in things like weapon loadouts, map routes, and even pre-fight meals. Weather events could add a whole new layer of gameplay for Monster Hunter Wilds as it would force players to adapt to uncontrollable conditions during hunts.
