Throughout the Monster Hunter franchise, there have been many monsters that are considered the flagship of the game. Monster Hunter Wilds is no different with Arkveld taking that title, but Title Update 2 brings back a returning flagship monster from Monster Hunter 4.

Seregios makes a return to Monster Hunter Wilds after recently appearing in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. Its more modern adaptation is implemented with new features for new and experienced hunters to overcome. General updates to the game will also influence how hunters can beat this monster's main mechanic. Here is how to beat Seregios.

How to Unlock Seregios

Seregios description

The main quest to unlock Seregios becomes available to players after they reach HR 31 and talk to one of the children in the village of Kunafa. This will bring you throughout the Windward Plains in search of other missing children from the village. Upon finding them, you will encounter a Seregios and begin a hunt quest. After completing it, Seregios will be available to search for in the open world of the Windward Plains, Iceshard Cliffs, and the Ruins of Wyveria. There will also be an optional quest available that can be replayed an infinite number of times, making it easier to farm normal versions of the monster for materials.

Bleed

Seregios is a flying wyvern that features a unique mechanic that is not commonly found on many monsters. Its sharp scales can be used as projectiles and its claws can tear through your health if not careful. If hit too many times by some of these attacks, Seregios will apply a bleed debuff on your character. You will know if your character has this debuff if your health bar turns a light-pale red color and there is a scratch mark above your health bar with a number next to it, signifying how many stacks of bleed you have.

To remedy this, you can either prepare for the hunt by bringing the jerky consumable or simply crouch while standing still. This will passively get rid of the bleed effect, while the jerky will remove it instantaneously. While this bleed effect is on your character, any major movements will cause you to take damage. For example, attacking with your weapon while you are bleeding will make your health deplete at a rapid rate. The same can be said for when you are jumping or trying to roll out of the way of an attack. This makes it imperative to remove the status effect as soon as you see it.

Attacks and Attack Patterns

Seregios has many behaviors that resemble birds, leaning into that flying wyvern nature. If you find yourself underneath it, it will peck at you with quick talon attacks that pull you further in and make it harder for you to escape. When it gets you where it wants you, Seregios will launch itself in the air and do several different types of diving and swiping attacks. The weaker diving attacks are telegraphed relatively well, as they will fly high in the air before coming back down. Using things like perfect blocks, dodges, and offset attacks is a great answer to these attacks.

While those may not hit too hard, Seregios has plenty of moves that can delete your health bar if not careful. While in the air, Seregios will expand its wings fully and swipe in a horizontal line with its talons. This deals massive damage to anyone hit by it and can apply the maximum amount of bleed stacks. The previously listed counter-attacks can still work on this, but the timing is precise and can be fatal if not done properly. However, if you survive the attack and once Seregios lands, its left leg will become a temporary wound that you can use focus attacks on to punish the monster.

Seregios can do all the previously listed attacks in quick succession of each other, with the predictability of them becoming more sporadic when fighting a tempered version. That said, they are all telegraphed dramatically and can be countered in ways that leave you in a superior position to deal more damage. Since so many of its attacks start with it flying up into the air, flash pods are a great tool to help deal with its aggressive nature.

Seperate from those chains of attacks, Seregios can do a large plunging attack at one point that can deal massive damage and a pin attack. The diving attack will be telegraphed by the camera perspective zooming out so you can see how far back the monster is winding up before making a large impact. After it does this, its talons will get stuck in the ground and will leave it open to attacks for a short time. The pin attack shows Seregios doing a crescent-like sweep while flying and letting its talons scrape along the ground. Any hunter hit by this attack will be grabbed by Seregios and thrown down to the ground from the air. While pinned, Seregios will slash you rapidly with its talons and apply the maximum amount of bleed stacks. To counter this, make sure you either have a flash pod equipped that you can shoot out while pinned, or have a fellow hunter do the same if playing with multiple people.

In between any of these attacks, as it lands back on the ground, Seregios can shoot its sharp scales out of its body. These projectiles won't knock you down when it, but they can stack the bleed debuff quickly if hit by them numerous times. To prevent Seregios from doing that more often, breaking its head and cutting off its tail will significantly decrease the amount of projectiles it can shoot.
