Aside from battling all manner of monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds, one of the biggest priorities in the game is consistently obtaining a diverse variety of materials for your hunter. This helps with all aspects of gameplay, whether it's for making meals, trading with vendors, crafting powerful gear, and more.

One particular item in Monster Hunter Wilds that you'll find especially useful as you continue to rank up is Piragill Fins. If you're not sure how to get your hands on some, this guide can provide details on the best ways for farming them.

How to Get Piragill Fins in Monster Hunter Wilds

Piragill Fins are a valuable Equipment Material item in Monster Hunter Wilds that you can obtain once you reach and start progressing through High Rank. As their name suggests, they come from Piragill monsters. They're considerably easy to get, once you know all the avenues of doing so.

One way is by completing the 'A Sharp Squad' optional quest, which unlocks upon reaching HR 9. It requires you to slay a total of eight Piragill monsters in the Scarlet Forest. Once you do, you'll receive various rewards for your efforts, including at least one Piragill Fin+.

Another method, and probably the best, is to travel to the Scarlet Forest and seek out groups of Piragills, since that's where they normally reside (mainly in Areas 6 and 13, according to the map). You can kill and carve them for varying amounts of Piragill Fins+. Once you unlock the 'Rest' feature for your tent, you can take even bigger advantage of this method by resting, which will respawn anything you've killed or harvested in the area.

The third and final way to obtain Piragill Fins is via trade. As you complete optional quests for certain NPCs in each main region of the game, you can open new trade routes that can then be managed by Nata, who acts as your 'Village Intermediary' at any Base Camp (or the Grand Hub).

Musharpeye, whom you can find at the Wudwud Hideout in Scarlet Forest, is the main vendor to watch for Piragill Fins. They'll occasionally have them available to trade for items such as Sparkly Treasures, which you can also gather in the Scarlet Forest. Occasionally, your unlocked Item Retrieval vendors will also have some to provide you, depending on luck.

How to Use Piragill Fins in Monster Hunter Wilds

As previously mentioned, Piragill Fins are an Equipment Material item, meaning they're used primarily for crafting certain types of High Rank armor (such as Mizutsune) and talisman charms. Once you've gathered at least one Piragill Fin+ for your inventory, it will unlock new armor options at the Smithy. So far, those options include the following:

  • Mizutsune Helm (alpha/beta): 2x Piragill Fin+
  • Piragill Greaves (alpha/beta): 3x Piragill Fin+
  • Duna Wildgreaves (alpha/beta): 2x Piragill Fin+
  • Breaker Charm I: 4x Piragill Fin+
  • Guard Charm II: 5x Piragill Fin+
  • Impact Charm III: 4x Piragill Fin+
  • Water Charm III: 3x Piragill Fin+

Otherwise, if you don't need them for crafting purposes, you can always sell spare Piragill Fins to local Item Provisioners for 425 zenny each, which isn't anything to scoff at.
