One of the many exciting announcements made during Gamescom Opening Night 2025 was an upcoming collaboration between MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 and Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest main series title in the popular Monster Hunter franchise. The collaboration has been confirmed to take place across both games, with crossover content implemented in late September in Monster Hunter Wilds and October in Final Fantasy 14.
The Crossover Goes Both Ways As Omega And Arkveld Cross Worlds
The Monster Hunter Wilds Title 3 update, coming in September, will bring in Chocobo mounts as well as Omega Planetes as a monster to battle. The mechanical Omega is the perfect choice to join Monster Hunter Wilds, as it is representative of not just Final Fantasy 14 but the franchise as a whole; variations on Final Fantasy's Omega have appeared in over half of the main series games and several spinoffs. There was also a brief appearance from a Cactuar in the trailer, but this iconic recurring monster's role has not yet been confirmed.
On the Final Fantasy 14 side of things, players will get to battle against Arkveld, a flying wyvern-type monster who debuted for the first time in Monster Hunter Wilds, in a Trial Raid fight . The Seikret, a bird-wyvern hybrid that is also unique to Wilds, will appear as a mount. It has not yet been confirmed how players will be able to earn Seikret mounts, but it is likely that it will connect to needing to defeat Arkveld. It is likely that more information about the nature of the collaboration event, especially on the Final Fantasy 14 side, will be revealed closer to release.
Both Games Get Some Love, But Final Fantasy 14 Comes Out On Top
The collaboration is an exciting one for both Monster Hunter Wilds and Final Fantasy 14 players, but, even with what little information has been revealed, it seems like the Final Fantasy 14 side of things is the clear winner. The Seikret will be a distinct mount, rather than just a cosmetic skin, as Monster Hunter Wilds' Chocobos will be. In addition, fighting Arkveld will be the center of a major event, while Omega Planetes, while a fun addition, will just become another entry into Wilds' already large monster roster.
While unconfirmed, Omega Planetes could potentially drop unique materials for crafting a themed weapon or armor set.
In addition, while no details have been confirmed at this time, it is likely that Final Fantasy 14 players will have the option to earn more rewards than just the already revealed Seikret mount. A previous collaboration between Final Fantasy 14 and Monster Hunter World, which saw 14's players taking on Rathalos, included a Rathalos mount as well as "Final Fantasy- ified" versions of the iconic Rathalos armor pieces from the Monster Hunter franchise. The previous crossover was a fairly extensive event with multiple rewards to earn and tasks to complete, and there's no reason to suspect that the Wilds event will be any different.
Speaking at Gamescom Opening Night, Square Enix's Yoshi-P revealed that he had been wanting to collaborate with Monster Hunter again for a long time—in fact, he and the team at Capcom had been talking about it since shortly after the first crossover event debuted. Responses to the World collaboration were mixed, especially regarding the redesign of the iconic Rathalos armor. However, it's likely the development team has taken that feedback into account, and the rewards for battling Arkveld will be more true to the monster's Wilds origins. An improved Monster Hunter collaboration would bring plenty of rewards and excitement for Final Fantasy 14 players, making them the clear victors in this trade-off.
