There are hundreds of different Materials that are used in crafting within Monster Hunter: Rise. And, some of them are a bit more of a pain to gather than others, especially the ones that require players to hunt down and carve the Smaller Monsters on the map.

High-Quality Pelts are a good example of these, as they're a High Rank Material drop used to build a rather large handful of different items. Of course, it's all worth it, as the Monster Hunter franchise is one of Capcom's best-selling and most beloved. Still, to save players some from having to waste time farming these, let's go over some of the best things to spend High-Quality Pelts on in Monster Hunter: Rise.

How To Obtain High-Quality Pelts

Monster Hunter Rise - Anteka and Kelbi In Their Natural Habitats

First off let's go over how exactly Hunters are supposed to find these Small Monster Materials that only sell for a meager 330 Zenny, otherwise known as High-Quality Pelts. Well, there are three specific routes:

  1. Getting it as a Carve from Kelbi on High Rank versions of just about all of the base MH: Rise maps outside of the Lava Caverns. Though, the best place to find them quickly is in Area 11 of the Shrine Ruins map. Also, it should be noted that obtaining High-Quality Pelts from Kelbi isn't a 100 percent guarantee as well. The Carve rate for this item is only a 45 percent chance, meaning that some bad luck can lead to a lot of grinding for these Pelts.
  2. Carving it from Anteka, the large moose-like creatures only found in the Frost Islands. However, this is a much less 'surefire' method, as the chance for Anteka Carves to grant High-Quality Pelts is only a lackluster 18 percent as opposed to the 45 from Kelbi.
  3. Lastly, High-Quality Pelts can also show up in the 'Items Obtained by Palico' section of the Quest Rewards. That said, they don't go off and gather on their own, they'll just do their own separate gathering, mining, and carving from nodes and corpses nearby. So, when a Hunter is taking out Kelbi or Anteka trying to get these things, the Palico might get a carve in there and net themselves a High-Quality Pelt that shows up in the Quest Rewards at the end.

The Best Gear To Craft First With High-Quality Pelts

Monster Hunter Rise - Looking At The Kadachi Greaves At The Blacksmith

Finally, let's get to the real focus, the best items to craft first with High-Quality Pelts. Of course, these recommendations will differ depending on the need of the Hunter, their play style, and their weapon of choice. But, in general, these are the best options:

Item Name

Armor/Weapon Skills

Reasoning

Volvidon Mail S

Rapid Morph 1, Jump Master 1

A fantastic early-game option for Charge Blade, Switch Axe, or even Insect Glaive players thanks to Jump Master and Rapid Morph. Plus, later on, when Layered Armor is unlocked (AKA Transmog), the Volvidon set is a great choice for that as well.

Kadachi Greaves S

Constitution 1, Critical Eye 2

Getting points of Critical Eye in High Rank is helpful for pumping out high damage numbers, and Constitution just makes combat easier. Plus, all the variations of the Kadachi Set, be it Low, High, or Master Rank, are incredibly useful overall.

Hunter's Greaves S

Stun Resistance 1, Attack Boost 2

While not the best High-Rank Greaves, in terms of defense, the two points of Attack Boost this early on in the game can do a lot, and Stun Resistance is always a great quality-of-life Skill to have.

Arzuros Helm S

Fortify 1, Defense Boost 2

One of the best early High-Rank pieces for new Monster Hunter players thanks to Fortify making repeat carts difficult and Defense Boost making it harder to cart at all.

Cyclecaster (HBG)

Fast Reload, Wyvernheart Special Ammo, 180 Attack

One of the better Rarity 4 Heavy Bowguns (one of Rise's 3 ranged options), especially since it has the Attack Boost 3 Rampage Skill available.

Anteka Burst II (HBG)

Above Average Reload, Wyvernheart Special Ammo, 180 Attack

The only real Rarity 5 item that uses High-Quality Pelts, so it has the highest damage return for Pelts spent. Plus, the three Rarity 1 Decoration Slots are great for slotting in some convenience Skills like Flinch Free, Stun Resistance, or even Defense Boost

Grass Flute II (HH)

Blast 12, Wind Pressure Negated/Health Regen/Sonic Barrier Melody Effects, 150 Attack

The Hunting Horn's comedic option that's unlocked through side quests, the Grass Flute 2 is a lot more viable to use than a lot of other weapon's 'funny' weapon trees. The Blast damage is decent on HH and it has pretty well-rounded Melody Effects.

Teddybear II (Hammer)

Sleep 34, 120 Attack

And finally, there's the comedic Hammer tree, the Teddybear branch. While this Hammer or its Upgrades aren't incredibly useful later on compared to other weapons, the blue Sharpness, Sleep application, and overall damage of the weapon are well worth the High-Quality Pelt investment.

Monster Hunter Rise is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
