It took a year for it to appear, but the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Rise is now one of the debuting beasts appearing during Monster Hunter Now Season 3. This fearsome opponent has access to potent attacks that can inflict a lingering explosive charge if you're not careful enough, causing extra damage to your hunter that might be enough to knock them out.
At the start of the new Monster Hunter Now update, Magnamalo are a relatively common sight. However, as soon as the event goes away, you'll need to reach a milestone in the Season 3 Story Quests to get them to appear in the wild once more. Here is everything you need to know about this beast, from where to find it, how to beat it, and what items it can drop.
Monster Hunter Now: Best Great Sword Build for High Damage
Great swords are a big step up from the Sword and Shield combination. Here are the best Great Sword suggestions for Monster Hunter Now players.
Where To Find Magnamalo In Monster Hunter Now
To get Magnamalo to appear in the wild, you need to defeat it in the Season 3 Story during an Urgent Quest where you must defeat it single-handedly. It's currently unknown in which Chapter it appears, but this guide will be updated when its Chapter location is confirmed. Once you unlock Magnamalo, you can find it roaming in every one of the available habitats (forests, swamps, and deserts).
You can pin Magnamalo on the Monster Tracker in the paintball tab, then hunt the minimum required large monsters to get a guaranteed one to appear.
How To Defeat Magnamalo In Monster Hunter Now
This beast is far tougher than the majority of the available roster in Monster Hunter Now. It is highly recommended you lock onto body parts, as breaking them will stun Magnamalo for a long time, allowing you to get some hits in. While its weakness is water, the Hunter Guide also mentions that thunder-element attacks can be effective against the body parts that are covered in hellfire — the purple aura that emits from Magnamalo's limbs.
Most of its attacks are quick swipes and leaps that you just need to get used to timing your dodges against. However, the main thing to be careful of is Magnamalo's tail. If you see it whip about, it's about to fire a full-screen laser for massive damage. Slower waves of the tail indicate that hellfire-infused fireballs are about to rain down on you, so time your dodge well to avoid the Hellfire blight status ailment, which can cause extra damage if you don't deal with it by hitting Magnamalo consistently. Breaking its tail is handy for monster material drops, but you should only try this if you're hunting with other people.
