Monster Hunter Now players will start the game with a basic Sword and Shield, one of the easiest weapons in the series that's usually perfect for beginners getting their feet wet. As players get through the tutorial and early chapters, they'll get to unlock the other five weapon types. As players hunt down more large monsters, the types of weapons and armor sets that can be crafted will steadily increase. Each weapon type has a Special Skill that can be used during battles to turn the tide and deal serious damage to monsters. Here's how players can get Special Skills in Monster Hunter Now.

Players will have to use a Special Skill as part of the main Monster Hunter Now storyline. To access a weapon's Special Skill, it'll need to be Grade 2. After players head to the equipment menu to level up weapons (found by pressing your weapon's picture on the bottom-left), they will eventually be able to Overgrade the weapon into its next rank. Doing this will require Zenny and some materials, which will vary based on the weapon and the rank players are Overgrading to. Weapons can reach up to Grade 10.

The first Sword and Shield, for example, the Hunter's Knife 1, can be Overgraded to Grade 2 after it gets to level 5. To Overgrade a weapon, just hit 'Overgrade' on the weapon screen. It'll require Iron Ore, Machalite Ore, Dragonite Ore, and 300 Zenny. Doing this will unlock the Perfect Rush Special Skill, which launches the player at the monster with a "dizzying flurry of strikes and bashes."

The Special Skill gauge will appear at the bottom of the screen during hunts and slowly fill up as players connect attacks. Once it's ready to go, simply tap it once. During the animation, players cannot get hit by a monster's attacks, so try and use it at the right time to maximize damage potential.

Bonus Monster Hunter Now tip: If anyone is struggling in a tough fight, defeat some small monsters first to charge the gauge before going into the big fight.
