While small monsters are easy to slash down using the most basic of weapons, Monster Hunter Now players will need to unlock other weapons that come with elemental advantages in order to take down larger monsters. Large monsters arrive semi-frequently in the game and have star ratings above their heads, with one being the weakest of the bunch and going up to five gold stars before breaching the purple star rating. Players looking to take down the stronger versions of these large monsters in Monster Hunter Now will need to come prepared.

There are nine different weapon types in Monster Hunter Now, all of which come with their own strengths and weaknesses. For Great Sword users, a larger swing will cause more damage but take longer to build up, while Dual Blade users will attack more frequently but cause less damage with each blow. Lance users take both and combine them for a highly skilled, close-ranged weapon that can penetrate the thickest of armor with a single blow while taking less time to build up. Of course, getting in close to the larger monsters will require a greater level of dodging ability and reading the monster's movements. For those looking to take on a challenge with great benefits, the lance weapon may be the right call.

Monster Hunter Now: How to Get More Gems

Gems can buy some very useful items in Monster Hunter Now, but there are, unfortunately, few ways to get them for free.

Lance Build in Monster Hunter Now

Monster Hunter Now Best Lance

Lances have excellent coverage across many elemental fields, including Fire, Ice, and Thunder, three of the most useful elements in Monster Hunter Now. Along with Great Swords and Dual Blades, Lances unlock after the completion of Chapter 2: Shimmering Swamp in the main story. Once unlocked, players can begin crafting lances of the same elements of the other weapons, while elements such as Fire and Ice will unlock after taking down different large monsters. When taking into account some of the best lances available for experienced Monster Hunter Now players, here are the best four options.

Best Armor for Lance Users

Monster Hunter Now Loading Screen, Hunter Fighting Rathalos
  • Kulu Headpiece - Players won't find a better headpiece that is best suited for most lance builds than the Kulu Headpiece. This option comes with both the Critical Eye and Lock-On skills, with the former being especially important to lance users. Critical Eye amplifies both raw and elemental attack power, which pairs well with other pieces of armor that target elemental increases.
  • Barroth Helm - For a more specific approach to taking down some of the strongest large monsters, the Barroth Helm is an excellent option for players looking to theory crafting their way to victory. The Barroth Helm is precisely what a lance user would look for with its Level 1 Defense Boost and Offensive Guard skills. The latter is one of the best skills to acquire for lance users, while the former does a swell job at keeping the player alive through tough battles.
  • Barroth Mail - It's not always recommended to use too many pieces of the same set, but Barroth armor is built differently. Barroth Mail continues to add Offensive Guard points to the player, making them stronger throughout a battle where they consistently guard off attacks. A lance user is known for his nobility and ability to protect, and there's no better way than to fend off the attacks of a monster with calculative blows.
  • Kadachi Mail - For players looking to take advantage of the Thunderpierce and its powerful elemental boost, Kadachi Mail is the best choice. Evade Extender will further the range of each dodge, which helps with the lack of mobility that lance users suffer from. The additional Thunder Attack boost that the Kadachi Mail grants will go a long way for battles against large monsters weak to the Thunder element.
  • Barroth Vambraces - The Guard skill is another factor lance users may want to pay attention to, as the more points put towards this skill, the less damage and impact they will take from monster attacks. Barroth Vambraces will help with a Level 1 Guard Boost, but don't confuse them with Barioth Vambraces. Though the two are nearly identical in name, Barioth Vambraces are more suited for builds involving the Glacial Lance.
  • Zinogre Vambraces - One of the more niche options is the Zinogre Vambraces, which are only useful for players looking to build around the Thunderpierce. This option grants a Level 2 Thunder Attack boost, which will significantly elevate the power of Thunder-based attacks and stunning abilities. Unfortunately, its utility is only suited for one weapon, which means other vambrace options will help towards taking down a larger amount of monsters.
  • Kadachi Coil - Kadachi Coil continues the trend of pandering to the use of the Thunderpierce, as it boosts the Thunder Attack skill by another two points. Players wielding the Thunderpierce while combining the Kadachi Coil with the other armor pieces that boost the Thunder element will build one of the strongest elemental fighters in Monster Hunter Now, capable of taking down five-star large monsters without a doubt.
  • Legiana Coil - Alternatively, Glacial Lance users may want to gear up with Legiana Coil, as it instead boosts Ice Attack by two points and can help deal with terrifying monsters like Diablos. Ice-type builds also do well against Barroth monsters, which will in turn help with creating Barroth armor that can be used for building a bulkier defensive lance user.
  • Kulu Greaves - Since boosting one's affinity goes hand-in-hand with a stronger elemental attack, increasing the Critical Eye skill is a must for lance users. Kulu Greaves fill that need and are suggested for most large monster builds, along with elemental weapon builds. For users looking to boost the Thunderpierce or Glacial Lance even further, Kulu Greaves are an excellent supplementary armor piece to complete the set.
  • Baan Greaves - Another option for the final piece is Baan Greaves, which grants Level 1 Sleep Resistance and Guard. This choice is more geared towards elemental attackers who are in need of some extra defensive support and act as a good alternative to using Kulu Greaves.
