How Convert Element Works in MH Wilds

Convert Element is all about dealing Dragon damage. When you take any form of Elemental damage, this skill will increase the Dragon damage that you deal while also making your attacks deal chunky bursts of damage after dealing enough Elemental damage to a monster. Testing against the Training Area's dummy has yielded the following results:

The damage bonus is equal to 80/120/180 additional Dragon damage, but this only works if you're using a Dragon weapon. This part of the skill won't add any Dragon damage to your weapon if it uses any other element.
Convert Element 3 deals 310 Dragon damage against the training dummy when its bursts trigger. This is unaffected by your weapon's stats, though the damage will be reduced if it hits Hard Hide (white numbers).
It takes eight Triangle/Y/LMB attacks with the Gore Magala Sword and Shield to trigger the Dragon damage burst on the training dummy when hitting it from the front.
The hits needed to trigger subsequent Dragon damage bursts appear to increase after the previous one is triggered.
The extra hits from Corrupted Mantle drastically improve the frequency of the Dragon damage bursts.
Red lightning will crackle around your weapon whenever Convert Element is active.
Convert Element lasts for 120 seconds. Once it ends, it will go on cooldown for 90 seconds.
Convert Element can be triggered by blocking an elemental attack.

Is Convert Element Worth Using?

Yes, but players must understand that they only have two minutes to take advantage of Convert Element's effects before it goes on cooldown for a lengthy 90 seconds. This shouldn't be too hard for the average player against monsters like Rathalos, but against a Tempered Arkveld or Gore Magala, it will be much harder unless players have completely mastered those monsters' movesets.

Also, since Convert Element only buffs Dragon damage, its use-cases are limited to Dragon-weak enemies. You can use it against other monsters, but you'll likely get more value out of other skills or builds. To get the most out of it, use weapons like the Sword and Shield, Switch Axe, Insect Glaive, and Dual Blades.
