Once you enter the High Rank of Monster Hunter Wilds, there will be a lot more side quests for you to complete to help you quickly boost your Hunter Rank. Increasing your Hunter Rank further will continue to give you access to new content, such as returning to Wyveria.

One side quest you can accept early on is Beware The Gypceros, which will have you hunting down a new monster to High Rank that you haven't been able to face before. Here's how to find a Gypceros in the plains and complete the quest.

How To Find A Gypceros In Windward Plains In Monster Hunter Wilds

After accepting the side quest from Zatoh, you'll now need to find and hunt a Gypceros in the Windward Planes, though there isn't a quest-specific one to find. If this isn't a monster you've fought before in the plains, there also won't be an optional quest for you to complete to make this process go by quickly. The first thing you'll need to do to find one is return to your tent and change the time and weather.

  • Environment: Fallow
  • Time: Any

This process will cost 300 Guild Points.

A Gypceros will only spawn during Fallow weather, and while it's not always a guarantee, you'll just about always find one on the map, especially in the southwestern section of the map. Should one not spawn, simply pass the time and try again, but be sure to always have the weather set to Fallow.

How To Take Down A Gypceros In Monster Hunter Wilds

The weak point and breakable point of a Gypceros is its head, so it's best to fight them head-on. Bring whatever you can that resists Stun, as a common attack from these monsters is a flash attack that can leave you stunned for a few seconds. Finally, bring some poison resistance and antidotes, as these monsters can spit poison at a decent range.

  • Weakness: Fire
  • Resistance: None

The main thing to worry about when fighting these monsters is their stun attack. Right before they use it, a flash of light will appear as they open their mouth twice. If you get the timing right and dodge right when it opens its mouth for the third time, you can dodge and avoid the brief stun. While you usually want to worry about wounding a monster's feet to knock it down, fight this monster head-on to target its weakness and maximize damage.

You'll also want to either deal with poison right away or account for it and keep healing. When the monster shoots poison from its mouth, the poison will stay and can still affect you if you step into it. Fighting from the front will also help you avoid the tail, which can greatly extend and hit you even if you're far away. Overall, this monster has a lot of ranged options, so it's best to fight it up close. Once you defeat the monster, return to Zatoh and talk to him to complete the quest.
