The Lance is the king of defensive playstyles in Monster Hunter Wilds, but despite that, it still boasts a very respectable damage output that rivals every other weapon in the game. If you're a fan of blocking and counter-attacking with a huge shield and an equally-huge and pointy stick, then this is the weapon for you.
The following guide covers the best weapons, armor, and equipment skill options for Lance users in MH Wilds. Players don't have to follow the build strictly, but it should help them understand what makes a good Lance build work and find what works best for them.

Thundering Fulgurite is a rare treasure that can be difficult to find. Learn how to farm Thundering Fulgurite in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Best Armor and Skills for Lance in MH Wilds
As a weapon that relies a lot on blocking, players may want an armor set that can help mitigate chip damage. If you've reached the endgame, then four pieces of the Zoh Shia set with Super Recovery 2 is a great choice. Your build should look something like this:
|
Lance Build (Zoh Shia Set) |
|
|---|---|
|
Numinous Crown Beta |
Tenderizer 3 Mighty 2 Medicine 1 |
|
Numinous Shroud Beta |
Challenger 3 |
|
G Arkveld Vambraces Beta |
Mighty 2 Mighty 2 Medicine 1 |
|
Numinous Overlay Beta |
Jumping 2 |
|
Numinous Greaves Beta |
Tenderizer 3 Jumping 2 |
|
Talisman |
Exploit Charm |
Total Skill Summary
- Agitator 5
- Weakness Exploit 4
- Maximum Might 3
- Recovery Up 2
- Recovery Speed 2
- Evade Extender 2
- Counterstrike 1
- Convert Element 1
- Coalescence 1
- Elemental Absorption 1
This build is meant to negate as much chip damage as possible, allowing you to stay in the fight for longer. There will still be times when you will need to put your weapon away to drink a healing potion.
If you're yet to get your Zoh Shia armor pieces, the generic endgame armor set used in other weapon builds can do just fine. You won't be able to passively regenerate your health as efficiently, but as long as you keep Offensive Guard and Guard Up on your Lance, you should be good.
With the build above, you'll be able to rapidly recover your health in combat without using any healing items. This is mostly due to Super Recovery paired with Recovery Up and Recovery Speed. Combine the latter with an Immunizer to significantly speed up your red health recovery speed. The rest of the skills are there to boost your Affinity and provide other comfort skills (Evade Extender is particularly good).
In case you haven't started farming Arkveld and Gore Magala yet, these following armor sets are decent alternatives:
- Nu Udra set (Resentment)
- Guardian Ebony Odogaron (Burst)
Recommended Weapons
There are a number of good options for Lance players. You can go with either Raw or Elemental Damage based on preference, though a Lance with Paralysis can be just as good. Some standout picks include:
-
Firetrail Kaminet
(Quematrice): This weapon has high Raw with a bit of Fire damage and Affinity sprinkled on top. However, it only reaches up to Blue sharpness, so you'll miss out on the higher multiplier provided by White sharpness.
-
Skyscraper
(Artian): A Skyscraper with high Raw can outperform most other Lances in the game thanks to its triple Level 3 Decoration Slots. Feel free to make yours with your Element or Status Ailment of choice.
-
Lala Aviculari
(Lala Barina): If you don't want to use a Paralysis Skyscraper, then this is your next best option. The Lala Barina weapons in general are great for almost every monster in the game.
- Blazing Sital (Zoh Shia): With decent base stats, white sharpness, and the Whiteflame Torrent skill, this Lance is a good option for most fights.
- Purifying Beaumains/Fieberschild (Arkveld/Gore Magala): Same as above; these weapons are decent all around, and you can't really go wrong with them unless you're fighting something that resists Dragon damage.
Pretty much every R8 Lance is a good option, provided you can build around their strengths and weaknesses. Still, if you're not sure which weapon to make first, try out any of the ones above.
Always have Guard Up and Offensive Guard on your Lance. The former will let you block unblockable attacks, while the latter will increase your Attack when you score a Perfect Block.
