Monster Crown: Sin Eater appears to be remarkably ambitious compared to its predecessor. Similar to most other monster-taming RPGs, Monster Crown prioritized its collectible critters over a more standard narrative. Many of Monster Crown: Sin Eater's features plan to make huge innovations over the first game, and the game's story appears to be no exception.

The Best War Games recently spoke with a few of Monster Crown: Sin Eater's developers about the game, including Studio Aurum lead Jason Walsh and game director APE-AHAB. APE-AHAB discussed several of Sin Eater's major characters, as well as the role of its protagonist. AHAB even revealed some illustrations of each character, along with some exclusive information about their place in the world of Monster Crown.

10 Beginner Tips For Monster Crown You Need To Know

A monster-catching game perfect for fans of Pokemon, Monster Crown offers some unique takes on the genre. Here are some tips for those starting out.

Monster Crown: Sin Eater Reveals Faction Leaders and Major Story Details

Dyeus - The First Supporting Character Players Will Meet

Before divulging information about the leaders of each faction, Ahab began by sharing who players will encounter first on their journey to become a Monster Tamer: Dyeus.

"The first major supporting character you'll meet is the Asur's older brother, Dyeus. He's far and away the most skilled and respected Monster Tamer of the time, and he teaches the player the very basics at the start of the game. Dyeus is greatly concerned about ideas of personal liberty and self-determination, which are values he attempts to impart upon his little brother."

Dyeus seems to be the archetypal mentor character fans of RPGs should always expect to show up. His lessons to the player, his little brother, will likely set the thematic tone for the rest of the game. Likewise, after giving the player a thorough tutorial, it'll be hard not to build some affection with Dyeus.

Left to right: Deckard, Sabahat, and Professor Mycroft XIV

The Faction Leaders of Monster Crown: Sin Eater

Shortly after sharing Dyeus' relationship with the protagonist, Ahab explained that there are a few other characters who share an interest in helping the player on their quest. More specifically, they want to help the protagonist overthrow the Holy Order. Each faction leader appears to have their own reasons for taking on this mission and different plans for how they will accomplish it.

Deckard

"First among them is Deckard. Deckard is another skilled Tamer, and he seems to know Dyeus very well. Though he poses as a high-roller at the casino in the desert oasis of Niokyo City, he seems to have ulterior motives and an agenda all his own. In reality, he's the leader of the Sepnal Suicide Corps, a covert militant faction based out of the island of Sepnal southwest of the Crown Nation. Deckard is looking for a means to revive a certain Monster to use as the lynchpin of a full-scale assault."

Deckard shares a close relationship with Dyeus, although the nature of this relationship remains a mystery at the moment. Between his disguise at the casino and other shady dealings, Deckard hardly seems like someone that players should trust right off the bat. Finally, his methods of opposing the Holy Order appear remarkably more militaristic than his counterparts.

Professor Mycroft XIV

"Second is Professor Mycroft XIV. She is the administrator of the lonely island city of Hewston, just off the northeast coast of the Crown Nation - a community composed entirely of scientists. A ruthless intellectual, there's very little she doesn't know about the nature of men or beasts. She looks for an impartial solution to the conflict; a viral weapon that will simply kill all of Lord Taishakuten's forces where they stand, and leave humans and monsters alike untouched. She takes an almost immediate interest in Asur and seems to have some kind of connection to Lord Taishakuten."

Mycroft XIV is far from the Pokemon Professors that fans of the monster-taming genre may be used to. Although she is similarly knowledgeable about the monsters that roam the world of Sin Eater, her intellect appears to be as menacing as it is helpful. Mycroft's viral weapon is a perfect showcase of her intelligence and shows that she may prefer to avoid getting her hands as dirty as Deckard.

Sabahat

"Third is Sabahat, the Beastman Model: Surgus. Sabahat was formerly Lord Taishakuten's doctor and chief engineer of the Beastman Project, before they escaped and set up a small encampment on a small island to the northwest of the Crown Nation. Together with other Beastman escapees known as the Bannerless Beastmen, they try to make the Beastmen's remaining years as comfortable as possible before the inevitable cancers come to ravage their bodies. Sabahat has been alive so long that they do not remember their time as a human, or even whether or not they were male or female."

Sabahat is undoubtedly the most enigmatic of the bunch. It is unclear what Sabahat's plans to deal with the Holy Order may entail, although they appear to have the most direct relationship to Lord Taishakuten. Rather than taming a fearsome monster or devising a deadly virus, Sabahat seems primarily concerned with protecting their fellow Beastmen.

Interestingly enough, all three faction leaders make their homes on islands adjacent to the Crown Nation. Deckard, Mycroft, and Sabahat all have different relationships to the Holy Order but a shared goal to see it defeated. Of course, players will meet them all as the protagonist who can ally with these leaders or none of them at all. This suggests that the player may find themselves at a crossroads between leaders where they are given the ability to choose the future of the Crown Nation. Whatever turn the story may take, there is plenty of time to theorize before Monster Crown: Sin Eater is eventually released.
