The special tie-in between Monopoly GO and the fast food giant includes a free in-game item for players of the mobile game and a chance for McDonald's customers to score some high-value prizes.
The Monopoly game has historically been one of the most popular collaborations for McDonald's. Held for the first time in 1987, the crossover promotion originally saw the restaurant packaging specific items in cups and containers that included peel-off tabs featuring the likeness of property cards from the classic Hasbro real estate board game, rewarding customers for collecting all properties from a color set. The newest incarnation of Monopoly at McDonald's works in a very similar way, though it now incorporates the McDonald's app for cashing in prizes, along with offering bonus chances to win.

McDonald's and Monopoly GO Come Together for the First Time
Following the announcement that the McDonald's Monopoly event was coming back for a limited time, which was made in late September, the newest version of the event was officially launched on October 6, marking the first time it has been held in the United States since 2018. That long hiatus means that this is the first opportunity for Scopely's popular mobile game Monopoly GO, which was released in 2023, to get involved, and it's doing so in a couple of different ways. Prizes for the in-store game include six trips for four, each valued at $50,000, to real-world locations that are featured in Monopoly GO's set of stylized game boards, with destination locations including Tokyo, Paris, Barcelona, and Monaco.
In addition to trying to cash in on one of those six big prizes from the restaurant chain, there are some in-game rewards that players can pick up in collaboration with the McDonald's Monopoly event. Probably the most exciting of these is the opportunity to get a new shield skin in Monopoly GO. Featuring the fast food chain's classic red fry box with golden fries poking out of the top, the McDoanld's Fry Shield skin can be claimed via an official link that was first shared by both the game and restaurant's social media accounts, which should be accessed using the mobile device on which a person plays Monopoly GO. Doing so will launch the game, and players will be able to switch to their new shield skin from the Showroom menu.
Other in-game rewards are also active in collaboration with the real-world event. These additional rewards include bonus Monopoly GO dice rolls and some custom tokens. These rewards are in addition to prizes being awarded by the restaurant chain, which include free food, tech gadgets, and $1 million.
