With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 finally becoming available to players, many fans have been impressed with Infinity Ward's efforts here. Whilst all of the game's content is yet to be accessed in the region of the new DMZ mode, Warzone 2.0, and Season 1 which are all set for a November 16th release, fans continue to relish the return of third-person mode.

This is accessible in both the main multiplayer modes and all of its playlists, and can also be toggled during the co-op survival modes, adding an extra layer of realism to the gameplay many fans were hoping for.

5 Realistic Animations

THIRD PERSON

One of the most integral features of this mode in the aspect of it being successful is how true to life the animations are. In this case, as showcased before its release, the movements from operators are incredibly realistic and appear to be an accurate simulation of the way military or special ops soldiers operate. The gun movements when moving sideways, mounting up against walls for a stable shot, and the sprinting animations leave players open for a realistic experience.

Whilst first-person is the classic and most popular and preferred way of playing for a large majority of players considering the franchise standing as a pivotal one in the FPS genre, these features and animation sets are certainly enough to sway some players over to this unique way of playing the title.

4 Operators Visible

Operators

Out of all the positive aspects of the third-person mode's return, is the opportunity for players to now see their operators amid gameplay. Throughout the majority of titles throughout the franchise, the only way players could view the characters they were using was via the main menu matchmaking screen, or after being killed in the middle of a match. For the most part, this rendered the special skins and designs from both the store and battle pass pointless other than other players seeing this.

Now, there is more incentive for players to progress in the battle pass, and unlock different skins for their operators unlike before, and this may potentially be a huge contributing factor towards the maintenance of the game's player base over the next two years until the next title in the franchise.

3 Increased Viewing Perspective

Toggle Shoulder

A huge benefit of this third-person mode is an improved level of perspective, as players are now able to see enemies in areas that are not usually visible and change shoulders when aiming down sights. With the change from the beta of aiming down sights switching back to first-person, developers have adhered to fans' requests to keep this in the third-person perspective, which will only transition when using a sight where it is necessary. It also helps players to identify who may be behind them, and any footsteps heard can then later be revealed without the need of turning around.

Whilst this may be a controversial feature in some players' eyes as it removes the suspension of having a limited view of surroundings, Infinity Ward has ensured that both sets of fans with the two preferences between the modes are pleased, as this perspective can only be used in lobbies which are designated to this perspective known as 'third-person moshpit'.

2 Complimentary For Future Modes

Ghost

With rumors circulating regarding a zombies mode potentially being added later down the line, the base setup of this third-person mode will be a massive benefit in light of this happening. It was recently revealed that files related to a zombies mode were found within Modern Warfare 2, and while this may be related to the upcoming Warzone 2.0, it has left many fans wondering what modes may come to light in the title's future.

As Treyarch won't be releasing their new title until 2024 and most of the Call of Duty development teams are contributing towards Modern Warfare 2, the chances for a plethora of modes being released in this game's life cycle are huge, and fans will revel at the prospect of zombies being one of them, as it will add a new layer of depth and realism to the game.

1 New Game Feel

Multiplayer

In all, the return of this camera angle has helped provide a fresh feeling for both old and new Call of Duty players, with the addition of animations that have attention to detail and the option for those who have been awaiting a new third-person shooter. Developers have made a beneficial choice towards keeping players engaged and wanting more, and with only some of the content available currently, the chances of even greater reception are high.

Fans who are aware of Ubisoft's The Division 2, will likely compare the two titles, and given Call of Duty's higher level of popularity, it will fit the needs of those looking for content in The Division. Standing as a new title in the franchise, as usual, it can feel like two different titles with two options available to choose from.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is out now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
