A Modern Warfare 2 gamer has conjoined the recon drone field upgrade and sentry gun killstreak to devastating effect. In a move that will surely draw the ire of Modern Warfare 2 players finding it unfairly exploitative, two moderately effective gameplay implements combine into something far deadlier.

The first major content patch for Modern Warfare 2, Season 01 Reloaded, arrived on December 14, 2022, bringing new operators, the Chimera weapon platform, the fan-favorite maps Gunhouse and Shipment, and a host of other changes. While criticisms surrounding Modern Warfare 2 remain prevalent, fans are mostly contented, reassured by the pace of updates that what wrinkles remain are soon to be ironed out. Infinity Ward has found a solid balance of its tried and tested formula with enough fresh ideas to keep its annual entry in the Call of Duty franchise from feeling stale.

Raptrzzz posted a Modern Warfare 2 clip to the game's subreddit which highlights a degree of ingenuity the developers at Infinity Ward surely could not have predicted from fans of the game. By equipping the recon drone field upgrade and then unlocking a sentry gun through a seven-killstreak (or equivalent scorestreak), Raptrzzz demonstrates a hidden and hilarious synergy. Deploying the sentry gun, then placing the drone atop it, followed by resetting the sentry gun's position results in a once-stationary automated machine gun becoming a low-flying manually-controlled terror, capable of repeatedly wiping an entire lobby.

The discovery of combining a recon drone and sentry gun comes as the latest in a long-standing tradition of stretching traditional gameplay mechanics in Call of Duty to their absolute limit for any possible advantage. Modern Warfare 2's Superman exploit, where players can soar through the air by bouncing off of certain areas of maps is still being abused by top-tier players despite numerous complaints. G-walking, where players can move through the game in complete silence by constantly changing their standing position remains an issue in Modern Warfare 2 as well. With Infinity Ward's precedent for fast turn-around on new content, there is hope that an equal effort to quash these types of exploits will be a priority as well, but for the time being, knowing and utilizing these exploits can be the difference between glorious victory and crushing defeat.

While categorically unfair, and sure to haunt matches in Modern Warfare 2 for days to come, out-of-the-box plays like Raptrzzz add a spice to the hallmark shooting franchise that ultimately make it a more compelling experience, overall. With that said, pity the gamers that will have to face down this flying turret of doom.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
