Using the proper settings can make all the difference when batting in MLB The Show 24, and choosing the wrong one could be the difference between a triple and a strikeout. For players returning for yet another year of baseball, new users may want to pay special attention to which settings are best suited for them.

Zone

Recommended for returning players who have a knack for the franchise's mechanics.

Zone hitting is the general hitting setting that players will expect to use when first playing MLB The Show 24, but its complicated mechanics may turn off some from using it. Players will be required to use the left analog to aim the swing of the bat and hit the button of which swing they'd like to use, whether it's a power swing or a contact swing.

Miss on the precision of the location and players will become frustrated with a wild swing that misses the ball completely. Zone hitting is only recommended for players who have good control of accuracy and timing, and have experience with this structure.

Directional

Recommended for novices who have one year of MLB The Show experience.

Directional hitting will feel similar to Zone hitting but with less emphasis placed on the top and bottom corners of the strike box. This takes out some guesswork from each swing but handcuffs the player to decide whether a pitch is low or outside, when it could be both at the same time. Guess wrong, and players with good fielding in MLB The Show 24 will make light work of the hit.

This mode should be considered for players who are returning from their play in MLB The Show 23 and may have tinkered with this hitting mode. Casual and newcomers should refrain from the first two modes to understand the fundamentals of swinging the bat, timing each pitch, and being able to determine the difference between a strike and a ball.

Timing

Recommended for newcomers and casual players.

If this is somebody's first time playing a MLB The Show game, or children are looking to pass the time, Timing mode is the appropriate setting. Players will still choose between a power swing, a contact swing, or a bunt, but each swing will be centralized in the strike box. This takes out all the guesswork from angles and whether a pitch is high or low.

The only issue remains pitches that are at the extremities of the strike box, as they may feel tougher to make contact with, but the chance of connecting is higher than in the two previous modes. Players' only challenge, besides the timing of the swing, is to make sure not to swing at any pitches outside the box.
