Minecraft Legends follows a brave adventurer on their quest to protect the Overworld from the Piglins attempting to take over. While playing through the story, players will happen upon a variety of useful materials and resources that can aid them in their quest. Sadly, acquiring some of these materials is impossible if players haven't completed certain feats beforehand.
In Minecraft, Coal is usually one of the first resources a player will obtain, but acquiring some in Minecraft Legends will take a little extra effort. That said, unlocking the means of harvesting Coal can be extremely useful, as the resource can be used to create some pretty powerful structures.
What Does Coal Do In Minecraft Legends?
While Coal is mostly used in Minecraft to cook food, create torches, and extract ore from stone blocks, it serves a completely different purpose in Minecraft Legends. When obtained, players can use Coal to create powerful structures like Scatter Towers, Protector Towers, and Kaboomeries.
These structures can be extremely helpful in bringing down Piglin bases and defending villages, so players may want to unlock the means of creating them as soon as they can.
Coal can also be used to create Creeper Spawners which, when built, will allow the protagonist to spawn Creepers to aid them in their quest to defeat the Piglins. Creeper Spawners cost 25 Wood, 25 Stone, and 5 Coal to build while spawning a single Creeper requires 2 Coal, 2 Lapis, and 1 Flame of Creation.
Creepers are incredibly helpful mobs to have at one's side due to their explosive properties, but spawning lots of them can be pretty expensive.
In order to unlock the Creeper Spawner, the protagonist must first venture to the Creeper Homestead, where they will be required to defeat the Piglins in the area before they can destroy the nearby Nether portal. Once the portal has been destroyed, the ability to spawn and command Creepers will become available.
Where To Find Coal In Minecraft Legends
Before setting off into the vast world of Minecraft Legends to acquire Coal, the player will first need to return to the Well of Fate, where they will then need to create the Improvement: Gather Coal Melody.
Placing this structure next to one of the four surrounding towers will grant the protagonist the ability to command Allays to collect Coal for them. Building the Improvement: Gather Coal Melody requires 100 Stone and 100 Prismarine.
Finding Coal in the Overworld, however, can be a little tricky, especially if players are aimlessly exploring the map. The best way to find large quantities is to explore the Meadow and Badland Biomes until the protagonist comes across some stone-like veins with black particles spread throughout. These are Coal veins and can be harvested by commanding the Allays.
Coal can also be acquired by opening Village Chests. To find out what village produces this resource, the player should examine the world map and hover the cursor over each village until the information box on the right-hand side of the screen features the symbol for Coal.
