Spears were easily the most exciting part of Mojang’s Mounts of Mayhem update when it was announced a few weeks ago. They are the first new tiered weapon to be added to Minecraft in years, so fans were really hyped about it. Now that the Mounts of Mayhem snapshot is out, you can finally try out Spears and all the other features that came with the update.
Spears are a useful melee weapon that you can use to attack mobs or defend yourself. When used right, it can be a great addition to your gear. Luckily, they are also really easy to make. Here’s how you can get your hands on a Spear in Minecraft.

How to Get Spears in Minecraft
As mentioned earlier, Spears are a tiered weapon. This means you can make them using different materials. The material you use decides how strong the spear will be. To craft one, you’ll need:
- 2 x Sticks
- 1 x piece of material (like Wood, Stone, Iron, Gold, Diamond, or Netherite)
If you don’t have sticks, you can easily craft them using two planks or get them by fishing. Sticks are common and useful in the game. You will need them for many crafting recipes, and they can also be used as a fuel source.
Once you have everything you need, open your crafting table and place the sticks and main material like you see in the screenshot above.
As of now, there are seven types of spears you can make. Each one needs two sticks and one piece of the material it’s made from. Here’s the full list:
- Wooden Spear
- Stone Spear
- Golden Spear
- Copper Spear
- Iron Spear
- Diamond Spear
- Netherite Spear
Each type of spear has different stats, depending on the material. For example, a Netherite Spear is the most powerful and durable, while a Wooden Spear is much weaker but easier to make.
Besides crafting, fans can also get Spears as drops from some Minecraft mobs like Zombies, Husks, and Zombie Horsemen. Like other weapons, you can also enchant your Spear to make it stronger. Some good options include Sharpness, Mending, Unbreaking, and the new Lunge enchantment. And yes, your speed also affects its damage. The faster you move, the harder it hits.
Spears are only available in the beta version of the game right now. The final version might work a little differently once the full Mounts of Mayhem update officially drops. Sadly, Mojang hasn’t shared the release date yet.
