The update is already shaping up to bring some massive changes to the sandbox title, with a brand-new Minecraft weapon being at the center of discussion around 1.21.

Minecraft's 1.21 update will introduce the Mace weapon to the game, offering a brand-new mode of attack that is hoping to revamp the combat of the title. Minecraft adds new mobs, biomes, and a plethora of things as part of its Poisonous Potato Snapshot to celebrate April Fools Day.

Minecraft's Mace Comes with a Range of Special Enchantments

Enchantments on Minecraft items, ranging from weapons and tools to pieces of armor, are an excellent way to empower the player. While these enchantments can be used to increase the durability or damage of certain items, there are specific enchantments for weapons that open up completely new avenues of gameplay compared to their regular states.

For example, Minecraft's Swords enchantments like Fire Aspect create elemental attacks and other special effects, while Tridents can be enchanted to summon lightning or propel a player through water. The upcoming Mace is no different. So far, Mojang has announced the following three new enchantments for Maces:

  • Density
  • Breach
  • Wind Burst

Devastating Damage and Combos Make Minecraft's Mace Enchantments Stand Out

The Density enchantment will be one of the most common and useful additions to any Mace in Minecraft going forward, as it plays into the main mechanic of the new weapon. The main allure of the Mace is that its damage to mobs and other players is multiplied if a player attacks a target while falling, increasing as a player falls from greater heights. Successfully landing an attack while falling will negate any subsequent fall damage, making the power of Mace attacks from great heights unrivaled by any other weapon in Minecraft. Density boosts the rate at which the Mace multiplies damage while falling, meaning players will not have to take such large risks in falling to inflict their desired amount of damage. It's riskier than something like Sharpness, but with high reward.

The Breach enchantment for Minecraft serves more of a general purpose, allowing the Mace to negate the effectiveness of enemy armor by 15% per level. While this may not play to the more interesting mechanics of the Mace, being able to bypass armor buffs could be a game-changer for Minecraft's PvP gameplay. Breach could also help against certain mobs like zombies that can equip armor, but the Smite enchantment will likely outclass it in those cases.

The third Mace-specific enchantment, Wind Burst, allows the player to bounce up into the air following a successful hit; the height of this bounce increases with higher enchantment levels. Players can then chain this bounce with subsequent drop attacks, giving a level of synergy with other Mace enchantments that is not seen that much with Minecraft's other weapons. Away from the more one-dimensional enchantments usually associated with the likes of Swords, Mace enchantments appear to offer some of the most layered and potentially lethal combat techniques that Minecraft has ever seen.

Minecraft is a game made up of blocks, creatures, and community. You can survive the night or build a work of art – the choice is all yours. But if the thought of exploring a vast new world all on your own feels overwhelming, then fear not!

Minecraft has no set goal and can be played however you’d like! This is why it’s sometimes called a “sandbox game” – there are lots of things for you to do, and lots of ways that you can play. If you like being creative, then you can use the blocks to build things from your imagination. If you’re feeling brave, you can explore the world and face daring challenges. Blocks can be broken, crafted, placed to reshape the landscape, or used to build fantastical creations.

Creatures can be battled or befriended, depending on how you play. The world of Minecraft allows for epic adventures, quiet meditations, and everything in between. You can even share your creations with other players, or play in community worlds!
