The creators of MindsEye, one of the lowest-rated games released in 2025, are still moving forward with additional content planned for release this year, along with a brand-new update that's just hit the game. Developer Build a Rocket Boy is hoping its continued efforts with MindsEye will serve as a "reset for the brand," seemingly acknowledging its past failures and looking forward to a brighter tomorrow.
Launched on June 10, 2025, MindsEye is a futuristic third-person action-adventure game that weaves a sci-fi story built around robotics, neural implants, and computer viruses, with a massive corporation at the center of it all. Despite MindsEye's cinematic approach to storytelling and relatively large pseudo-open world, it was plagued with problems at launch, with players complaining of performance issues, game-breaking bugs and crashes, and a story and gameplay set-up that many fans felt was too lacking in depth. The result stands in its reviews, with an abysmal Critics Recommend rating of only 8 percent on OpenCritic and just a 48 percent satisfaction rate among players on Steam.
Bizarrely, MindsEye is Still Sponsoring Content Creators
Despite its Steam player count struggling to maintain double digits, MindsEye continues to pay YouTubers to create new sponsored content in 2026.
MindsEye Devs Seek a Fresh Start in 2026
With MindsEye's bug-filled launch now nearly eight months in the past, Build a Rocket Boy has announced "a new phase of ongoing development" for the game, which includes the newly released Update 7. Available now across all platforms, the newest update's cental points of focus have been on smoothing out the flow of the game's campaign, enhancing the behaviors of ally and enemy AI, and providing players with easier-to-follow paths for its objectives. "We’ve listened, we’ve moved quickly, and we’re continuing to refine performance, fix bugs, and deliver substantial combat and gameplay improvements," Build a Rocket Boy CEO and CTO Mark Gerhard said in a prepared statement.
This start of the spiritual relaunch of MindsEye comes with a number of features intended to help out players during missions. Among the improvements in the patch notes are fixes to a variety of GPS tracking issues and general visual issues scattered throughout the campaign, as well as mission-specific changes that have been triggering failure conditions too easily. For example, friendly NPCs have been given extra health in multiple missions, which should assist players in avoiding failure without being overly reliant on babysitting them, distracting them from the main objectives at hand. Navigation around the city during missions should also be improved, as the developers have added some additional guidance blips to the map and increased the visibility distance of blips from 100m to 1000m.
This particular update in the roadmap to fix Mindseye doesn't focus heavily on adding extra content, putting a greater emphasis on fixing parts of the game that have been dissatisfying to players. However, Deluxe Edition players will see the introduction of a full street circuit city-center race called the Silva E-Series, which is centered in Redrock and will allow players to compete for the top times on global leaderboards. Other improvements players can expect following the new update include an upgraded musical score and ambient sound effects during cinematics, fleshed-out blood effects, reduced motion blur, and improved animations for weapon handling and locomotion.
With MindsEye counted among the most disappointing games of 2025, Build a Rocket Boy has been assessing months' worth of player feedback and will be using what it has learned from its fans to guide the studio's vision for future game updates. Gerhard said the team's primary focus is to deliver on the vision it has always had for the game, which includes the release of additional content in "steady, meaningful progress." There's been little extensive indication of what all of this will entail, but the studio has teased that a new expansion will be arriving in the months ahead, providing players with a greater ability to explore MindsEye's world, adding in a multiplayer mode, and tacking on additional story content that will amp up the endgame of the sci-fi action-adventure game.
MindsEye Update 7 Patch Notes
Hey everyone,
Update 7 introduces a brand refresh and another step forward in overall polish, guided by player and community feedback. The team’s continuing to push improvements, and more updates are on the way. This update focuses on smoothing campaign flow, making objectives easier to follow, and continuing to refine AI behaviour. Please keep the incredible feedback coming; you are making a real difference.
For Deluxe Edition players, Update 7 also introduces the Silva E-Series, a full street circuit city-center race in Redrock, now staged as a big-event street race with grandstands, barriers, and NPC spectators. The Silva Corporation has set the stage for a technical, skill-first challenge. Put down your fastest run and secure your place on the global leaderboards.
We’ll continue pushing out regular updates and fresh content. If you run into anything, please keep reporting it through the usual channels; it helps us track and prioritize fixes more quickly.
Thanks,
The MindsEye Team
