While it’s no secret that Build a Rocket Boy’s new ‘GTA Clone’, MindsEye, has gotten off to a rough start, the game still has its hidden strengths. So, especially if MindsEye’s troublesome launch issues get addressed, and the developers’ tentative plans for expanding the IP into a larger universe come to fruition, it might be worth keeping an eye on this game and giving it a second chance in the near future. After all, comeback stories for games after a troubled launch aren’t unheard of nowadays, so a little extra love and support could be just what the doctor ordered for MindsEye.

Regardless of MindsEye’s future potential, there’s still arguably one great reason why players should consider weathering the storm to experience one of this game’s greatest strengths: the outstanding performances from MindsEye’s voice artist cast. Ultimately, MindsEye’s cast of main characters arguably makes this game an experience worth having, despite the game’s controversial flaws.

The Best War Games speaks with MindsEye developers about the multiple methods used to create impressive and compelling cinematics for the experience.

MindsEye Features a Stacked Voice Cast

The playable character Jacob Diaz in MindsEye is voiced by Alex Hernandez, famously known for their role as Lincoln Clay in Mafia 3. Jacob Diaz is an ex-special ops soldier who was enhanced with a neural implant that allows him to control a combat drone. When players step into Jacob’s shoes, he’s attempting to reconnect the missing pieces from his past after his implant led to a catastrophic event. In order to do so, Jacob must form alliances with some of the brightest minds of the city of Redrock to discover the origins and true potential of his experimental implant.

Without naming their in-game characters for the sake of potential spoilers, these bright minds of characters among MindsEye’s cast are stacked full of industry veterans. Alongside Alex Hernandez’s portrayal of Jacob Diaz in MindsEye, the game’s casts bring a unique version of their likeness to their character in MindsEye, enhancing their performance with an extra layer of immersion. MindsEye’s cast of industry veterans notably includes:

  • Tanya Alexander (Tomb Raider, Fire Escape: An Interactive VR Series)
  • Elizabeth Arends (Street Fighter 6)
  • Anjali Bhimani (Dune: Awakening, Sunderfolk, Avowed, and more)
  • Giselle Gilbert (Resident Evil 7, Afterparty, Fire Escape: An Interactive VR Series)
  • David Haley (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Diablo 3)
  • Erika Ishii (Mortal Kombat 1, Rift of the Necrodancer, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and more)
  • Iman Nazemzadeh (Fire Escape: An Interactive VR Series, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Roadkill)
  • Ritesh Rajan (Thirsty Suitors, Journey to Foundation, Starfield, and more)
  • Isaac Robinson (Avowed, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind, Batman: Arkham Shadow, and more
  • David Sakurai (Assassin’s Creed Shadows)
  • Jake Thomas (Brave: The Search For Spirit Dancer)
  • Kirk Thornton (Dune: Awakening, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Sonic X Shadow Generations, and more)
  • Elias Toufexis (Fortnite, Death Stranding, Starfield, and more)
  • Jay Walker (Man Eater)
  • Reggie Watkins (Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Call of Duty: Mobile, and more)

Among these talented voice artists, David Bateson will allegedly be reprising their role as Agent 47 for an upcoming Hitman collaboration side mission in MindsEye.

MindsEye’s Cast Performances Are Its Saving Grace

Ultimately, each of the main characters’ performances is one of MindsEye’s biggest strengths. Despite its flaws, the strong cast performances are one area where MindsEye arguably lives up to its acclaimed fame of being a ‘GTA clone.’

For a great many reasons, it’s unfortunate that the launch of MindsEye was troubled by technical issues, especially considering the outstanding performances of the game’s cast will go unseen by many gamers. If nothing else, these performances alone arguably make the game an experience worth having, despite the critiques surrounding the current state of the game. So, regardless of whether MindsEye could get the Cyberpunk 2077 post-launch treatment and overcome the issues it faces at launch, players should still consider weathering the storm to see the rainbow that is the great performances of the game’s cast.
