Mike Flanagan's Latest Dark Tower Update Is Encouraging

The Dark Tower The People of the White and the Red 02

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Mike Flanagan let fans know that he is still working on his Dark Tower adaptation. Flanagan said:

“It’s not that I’ve put it down. It’s just that the thing is so big, it’s like building an oil tanker."

Flanagan continued:

"We’ve been moving it forward this whole time. It’s just, that’s how big it is. It’s constantly in the works, and you better believe as often as you guys may want to ask about it, Stephen King is asking me about it more, and I’m not gonna let him down.”

This is great news, and fans will definitely be ready to hear more updates when they're available. As Flanagan explained, adapting The Dark Tower will take a lot of time and effort, and it makes sense that it's taking a while. There's no doubt that the long wait will be worth it and King's many fans will appreciate the care that Flanagan has put into the story.

As Comicbook.com explained, the 2017 Dark Tower movie received negative reviews from fans and critics. Nikolaj Arcel co-wrote and directed the film, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba as Walter Padick and Roland Deschain. Then, Flanagan and Trevor Macy bought The Dark Tower rights via Intrepid Pictures, Flanagan and Macy's production company, in 2022. That was the same year that Flanagan got his Amazon first-look deal. Fans have had a long time to think about what they want to see in the series, from which characters need to be included to which actors would be perfect.

Many fans look forward to seeing Flanagan's take on the King story since he is a big fan of the prolific writer and is clearly passionate about the material. Flanagan has an impressive background and is definitely the right filmmaker for the project. Besides his Netflix horror series such as Midnight Mass, which tell creepy stories about family, friendship, life, and death, he has directed several horror movies including Before I Wake, Hush, Ouija: Origin of Evil, and Oculus. Flanagan's latest project is the King adaptation The Life of Chuck, which he wrote and directed.

Along with The Life of Chuck and The Dark Tower, Flanagan is making a Carrie TV series for Amazon Prime. He recently talked about the challenges of finding the perfect Carrie White. Given the filmmaker's love for King's dark, creepy, and emotional stories and his own talent, Flanagan will no doubt do a great job with both Carrie and The Dark Tower. At the time of this writing, there is no release date for The Dark Tower, but Flanagan's impressive filmography will give horror fans plenty to binge-watch in the meantime.
