- The future is bright for Stephen King and Mike Flanagan's collaborations.
Mike Flanagan's next Stephen King adaptation reveals a star-studded cast. Flanagan is known for his inspired takes on King's material, previously adapting Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep, a sequel to The Shining. Flanagan's next film is also based on King's work, yet it steps outside the author's horror genre roots with a more fantasy-centric tale in The Life of Chuck, which boasts a similarly stacked cast.
In April, it was announced that Flanagan would be adapting the famous Stephen King novel Carrie. Carrie has been adapted before, most notably in Brian De Palma's 1976 take on the story, which is often regarded as a horror classic starring Sissy Spacek in the title role. It was most recently adapted in 2013, with Chloë Grace Moretz as Carrie. However, that version fell flat, and Flanagan's take on the novel will flesh out the story through a TV series adaptation. While the plot still follows Carrie through her high school troubles and her mother's abuse, which spurs her telekinetic powers, the planned Amazon series is said to be a reimagining of King's beloved story. Flanagan is serving as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, with the plan also seeing him direct a few episodes.

As reported by Deadline, Flanagan's Carrie adaptation has revealed an ensemble cast. Summer Howell, known for Cult of Chucky and Time Cut, will play Carrie in the TV series adaptation. She is joined by Scream and Five Nights at Freddy's star Matthew Lillard, and Prey and Legion actress Amber Midthunder, among many others. Check out the announced cast list for Mike Flanagan's Carrie adaptation below:

Mike Flanagan's Future With Stephen King Adaptations Looks Very Bright
Carrie is planned to debut on Prime Video, likely in 2026. While it is far from the first adaptation of the material, Flanagan has shown a deft hand in tackling King's work, with Carrie having the potential to be the definitive adaptation of the author's novel. Having such a well-rounded cast also shows that the project is steadily moving along following its announcement, with Flanagan busy working on several projects, including a Clayface movie for James Gunn's DCU.
Of course, Flanagan is a known quantity among horror/sci-fi aficionados by now. Since breaking out in a big way with 2013's surprise hit Oculus, Flanagan has directed numerous well-regarded films and (perhaps most notably) spearheaded a number of beloved horror-tinged television series. Fans are excited about his Carrie adaptation thanks to his work on shows like The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass.
Flanagan's next film is The Life of Chuck, which has already impressed critics. It currently holds an 88% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes ahead of its release this summer. While it is a foray outside of King's horror roots, movies like The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile have proven some of the author's best adaptations, making The Life of Chuck an exciting release. Flanagan's Carrie adaptation may be a ways off, but the Stephen King adaptation could be an exciting take on the well-known novel.
