Mike Flanagan's Carrie reboot gets another exciting update, as it seems a beloved Scream actor is in line to star in an undisclosed role as Stephen King's horror classic gets the ball rolling. Instead of a movie, Flanagan's upcoming horror will be adapted into an Amazon TV series, with Summer H. Howell taking the leading role of Carrie, the shy teenage girl who is constantly mocked and bullied at her high school, and Siena Agudong as Carrie's closest friend, Sue Snell.
Flanagan's Carrie TV show will tell the story of a tortured high school student named Carrie White who discovers she has telekinetic powers. However, it's not just at school that Carrie suffers from horrible abuse. At home, her mother, Margaret White, who was originally played by Piper Laurie in the 1976 film, subjects Carrie to terrible abuse due to her devoutly religious mindset and controlling nature. Starring the talented Sissy Spacek and directed by Brian De Palma, the 1974 movie received a lot of praise from critics due to its stellar performances and that iconic pig's blood prom scene, with many calling it one of the best Stephen King adaptations. However, another Carrie adaptation was crafted in 2013, which starred Chloë Grace Moretz as the lead and Julianne Moore as the mother, but, unfortunately, it failed to live up to the original film, scoring a disappointing rating of 51% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Scream Star Matthew Lillard in Talks To Join Mike Flanagan’s Carrie
As reported by Deadline, Scream legend Matthew Lillard is reportedly in talks with Amazon to join the Carrie TV show in a mystery role. Many horror fans will recognize Lillard for his role as Stu Macher in the original Scream movie, but in more recent times, Lillard also starred in Blumhouse's adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy's, based on the 2014 point-and-click survival horror game developed and published by Scott Cawthon.
Carrie isn't the only film of Stephen King's that Lillard will be starring in, as the actor can be spotted in NEON’s upcoming summer release of The Life of Chuck, which is also directed by Mike Flanagan. However, The Life of Chuck won't be a horror movie and will instead be dipping into the supernatural/sci-fi genre as it explores themes of life, death, and the interconnectedness of individuals.
Even though Lillard's involvement in the Carrie TV series seems to only be in the talking stages right now, it's clear that he will make a great addition to Flanagan's adaptation due to his brilliant acting credentials. Lillard was even eyed for the role of Negan in AMC's The Walking Dead, auditioning for the part at the same time as Jeffrey Dean Morgan, but in the end, it was Morgan who landed the iconic role. Lillard will also return as Stu Macher in the upcoming Scream 7, as well as Five Nights at Freddy's 2, which is expected to release later this year.
Currently, Carrie does not yet have a premiere window, but when it does release, it will stream exclusively on Prime Video.
