Microsoft has recently confirmed that future Halo games will be available on PlayStation consoles. Microsoft’s recent pivot to a multiplatform approach has been controversial, and taking Halo to the PlayStation 5 is possibly one of the most surprising moves made by the company so far.
Halo is arguably Xbox’s most iconic franchise. Ever since Halo: Combat Evolved was released for the original Xbox in 2001, the idea of the franchise moving to PlayStation would have been unthinkable. However, with Halo: Campaign Evolved announced for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC, it seems that this will no longer be true in the future.

Future Halo Games Will Be On PlayStation
Halo Studios community director Brian Jarrard has recently appeared on stage at the Halo World Championships and confirmed that “Halo is on PlayStation going forward.” According to Jarrard, this is a “huge deal,” and the team is excited to welcome even more players in this “new era” for the franchise. While this decision will certainly be controversial, it’s not entirely surprising considering Xbox’s recent approach. Earlier this month, for example, Xbox president Sarah Bond said that exclusives are “antiquated for most people,” hinting that Microsoft is probably going to take even more exclusives to other platforms soon.
Several high-profile Xbox exclusives have been released on PS5 lately, and Halo is just the latest game to follow this trend. Titles such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Gears of War: Reloaded, and Forza Horizon 5 were launched on the platform and did well in sales there, which likely motivates Microsoft to continue the current multiplatform approach.
Being a multiplatform release is far from the only controversy regarding Halo: Campaign Evolved, though. Jaime Griesemer, who worked as the level designer of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, has recently criticized the remake. According to Griesemer, the new devs are breaking Halo: Campaign Evolved for no reason by making several changes to the original design. He cited that in The Silent Cartographer, for example, gamers are not supposed to take the Warthog up to steamroll the Hunters, which is why rocks were placed on the way, and the remake changes that.
Despite the controversies, most gamers are excited to play Halo: Campaign Evolved in 2026. Halo: Campaign Evolved will have some exciting new features, such as crossplay, 4-player support, three new prequel missions, newly recorded dialogue, an expanded arsenal of weapons, and much more. Hopefully, the title will make a successful debut on the PlayStation 5, bringing the iconic franchise to new fans.
