At first, Commendations may feel like they're among the rarest of Monster Hunter World's High Rank crafting materials. They're required to craft equally strong gear appropriate for their level, ones that easily (and controversially) carry Hunters all the way to the Iceborne expansion without breaking a sweat.

Monster Hunter World: Charge Blade Guide - Combos, Tips, and How to Use

The Charge Blade is the most confusing weapon to learn in Monster Hunter World. Here's a guide to help players get started with it.

However, as you progress through the base game's story, you'll unlock quests that will give you all the Commendations you need to craft the gear you want. Here's how to farm Commendations in Monster Hunter World.

Where to Get Commendations

Monster Hunter World Commendation ticket drop

Unlike the usual shiny drops or materials gained from carving, Commendations are only handed out as quest rewards. As such, you need to farm quests that have these tickets as part of their rewards. Such quests include:

  • Gaze Upon The Dawn (6-Star Special Quest)
  • A Colossal Task (6-Star Special Quest)
  • Left Quite The Impression (6-Star Special Quest)
  • Gone In A Flash (5-Star HR Quest; given by the Impatient Biologist near your most recently captured monster in Astera)
  • Kirin The Myth (5-Star Event Quest)
  • The Poison Posse (5-Star Event Quest)
  • Redefining The "Power Couple" (5-Star Optional Quest)

Out of all these quests, we highly recommend either Redefining The "Power Couple" or Kirin The Myth. The former will have you hunting a Rathalos and Rathian in the Ancient Forest, while the latter pits you against two Kirins in the Coral Highlands. Facing off against two thunder horses may be a daunting task for newer players, but this quest is very good for farming Kirin materials along with Commendations.

If you're hunting the Rathalos and Rathian, it may be best to bring a ranged weapon. Since both of these wyverns tend to fly around a lot, hitting them with melee weapons can be a hassle. However, experienced melee players should have no trouble fighting these if they take full advantage of their Slinger.

Commendations are used to upgrade the Defender weapons, a set of early-game gear specifically designed to help players catch up to the Iceborne expansion. Defender weapons are very strong compared to almost everything else in Low/High Rank, and if you're rushing to get to Hoarfrost Reach on a new character, then using any of these weapons is your best bet.

You'll also need Commendations to craft the three pieces of the Brigade Set as well as a number of charms, including:
