There are plenty of unique gear sets in Monster Hunter World, but not all of them can be made through conventional means. Sinister Cloth is a crafting material that Hunters can't reliably get by themselves. However, players will need to find some of these if they want to make one of the coolest-looking armor sets in Low/High Rank.

Instead of hunting monsters the usual way, you'll need to rely on your furry friends to get Sinister Cloth for you. This Monster Hunter World feature isn't as obvious as some others, but it's helpful nonetheless. Here's how to send Palicoes out for Sinister Cloth runs.

How to Get Sinister Cloth

The only way to get Sinister Cloth is to either find it randomly in the world, or send Palicoes out on Tailrider Safari tasks. This basically serves as a passive source of extra materials, similar to the Argosy. The difference here is that Tailrider Safaris target monsters in regions like the Ancient Forest or Wildspire Waste. You'll get different materials depending on which monster you choose and what region you send your Palicoes to.

To start a Tailrider Safari, make sure you've reached the Research Base and talked to the NPCs there first. Then, go to your room and speak with the Housekeeper Palico. You should be able to see the Tailrider Safari option in the menu that appears. Once the safari window is open, select any region at Low or High Rank, then pick a route from the available list.

The route list contains all the possible rewards you can get from the Tailrider Safari expedition. If you're only concerned about getting Sinister Cloths, send your Palicoes out to hunt large monsters in the Ancient Forest. This is the location where they will have the best odds of finding Sinister Cloth. Also, keep an eye out for routes with a Bazelgeuse or a Deviljho, as these monsters have relatively high Sinister Cloth drop rates regardless of where they are. Keep in mind that your chance to get Sinister Cloth from a Tailrider Safari is very low.

What Is Sinister Cloth Used For?

Sinister Cloth is required to craft the Death Stench armor set (and its related Palico gear). This set provides bonus Dragon damage, extra weapon sharpness, and three points of the Focus skill, which is one of the best skills for Great Swords. You'll also need one Sinister Cloth for every piece of the Death Stench set's layererd armor version. Some Sinister Cloth is also required to craft the head, arm, and leg pieces of the Commission set.
