Scarred Scales are Equipment Materials in Monster Hunter Wilds that play an important role in the crafting of the Battle armor set. This can be a tricky material to obtain, though, and its sources may not be immediately obvious. Fortunately, it is not extremely difficult to obtain Scarred Scales in Monster Hunter Wilds, though the process may require some patience.
This guide makes reference to several features that become available during High Rank in Monster Hunter Wilds, including the Village Intermediary and Material Retrieval. While it may be possible to obtain Scarred Scales without having access to those features, they definitely make things easier.
Monster Hunter Wilds: How to Get and Use Guild Points
Guild Points are earned through various activities in Monster Hunter Wilds. Here’s how players can acquire them and what they can do with them.
How to Get Scarred Scales in Monster Hunter Wilds
Item Trades
Players can obtain Scarred Scales via the Item Trades feature. For the uninitiated, there are NPCs in Monster Hunter Wilds' ecosystems that are marked with Item Trade icons, and those characters are willing to trade a rotating assortment of items with the Hunter. Two of those Item Traders, Gawdygog and Sekka, occasionally have Scarred Scales up for trade, and here are more details about those characters:
Gawdygog
- Location: Scarlet Forest - Wudwud Hideout
- Gawdygog will occasionally have two Scarred Scales for trade, each of which costs 10x Ancient Wyvern Coins. Players can earn those Special Items by capturing Curioshell Crabs, endemic lifeforms that appear in various ecosystems, and this guide to getting Ancient Wyvern Coins in Monster Hunter Wilds contains more information about that process.
Sekka
- Location: Suja, Peaks of Accord
- Sekka will occasionally have one Scarred Scale for trade, and players can take possession of it by handing over one Large Goldenscale Vase. That Special Item can be extracted from Remarkable Relics, gathering points that spawn in the Iceshard Cliffs during a Remarkable Relic Emergence. Players can find out if such an Emergence is forthcoming by checking the "Forecast" tab within the Cliffs' Environment Overview, and they can pinpoint the Remarkable Relic's position on the map using Filter Icons when it spawns.
To note, the word "occasionally" has been repeatedly used because Gawdygog and Sekka do not always have Scarred Scales on offer. Fortunately, players can use Monster Hunter Wilds' rest feature to quickly reset the inventories of those two traders, and they can rest and check until some Scarred Scales become available.
After interacting with Gawdygog and Sekka once, players can check both of their inventories by speaking with Nata, the Village Intermediary. For full clarity, Nata can be found sitting outside a Base Camp's Tent, making it very easy to rest and check for Scarred Scales.
Material Retrieval
As players work through Monster Hunter Wilds' fourth chapter, they will have the opportunity to unlock various NPCs who can perform material retrievals. One of those NPCs is Apar, and players can enlist them as a material retriever by speaking with them near the Peaks Back Gate in Suja, Peaks of Accord after completing the Lurking Shadows mission during Chapter 4. Players should then keep an eye on the materials that Apar brings in, by speaking with them or with the Village Intermediary, as they have a chance to collect Scarred Scales.
