Mewgenics might be about battling your ever-growing army of cats, but there's also a lot to dive into when it comes to breeding your feline friends. While you can just leave your cats to do their business at night and reap the rewards in the morning, doing so would massively limit the quality of the kitties that they birth. As such, spending time learning about your cats, splitting them into different parts of the house, and limiting inbreeding will have you on your way to some super strong cats to take on your next adventure outside your house. To limit your cat's inbreeding, however, you'll need to know how to check a cat's ancestry by viewing their family tree in Mewgenics.

How to View a Cat's Family Tree in Mewgenics

To unlock the cat family tree view, you'll need to give Tink 21 cats. This can then be selected by selecting a cat, viewing the little bio menu, and clicking on the family tree icon just to the left of the image of your selected cat.

This upgrade is technically the third upgrade that you'll get from Tink. The first for donating him one kitten will get you the Fancy Bow. The second upgrade unlocks the Base Stats view, which shows the DNA traits that cats can pass on to their kittens, and Bonus Stats, which shows how much the Base Stats can increase or decrease. This is unlocked after donating another 10 kittens.

The third upgrade for Tink allows you to check if a unit is inbred by viewing their family tree. This is important, as inbred cats are more likely to cause their offspring health issues. The more inbreeding there is in a cat's family tree, the more likely they are to inherit birth defects that lower their stats. They'll also just look a lot uglier.

Once you know which cats are related to which, after donating another 20 kittens to Tink, you'll unlock the ability to add a shape to a cat's name. Give cats from the same family the same shape, and you can help to avoid inbreeding moving forward.

Alongside the family tree view, an icon will be added to the right of the cat's age on the bio page. This is a quick way to check whether a cat is inbred or not. A straight face indicates that a cat isn't inbred, meaning it could be a prime candidate for breeding with some of your other best cats.
