French indie developer Sol Brothers has confirmed that its upcoming "Metroidvania" game, Maseylia: Echoes of the Past, will be launching on the Switch 2 next year. With Nintendo less than a week away from the launch of its next major home console, fans have been given plenty of reason to be excited about the Switch 2's release. Nintendo has already confirmed several major first-party games launching within its first months, including Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. Now, a new indie Metroidvania looks to be making its way to the Nintendo platform.

Metroidvanias have been a staple of the Switch's library since the early days of the console's first iteration. Nintendo's own franchise serves as one half of the genre's namesake, with Metroid seeing one new entry in Metroid Dread and a remaster of the original Metroid Prime on Switch. Many popular indie Metroidvania games have also made their way onto Switch, including beloved games like Hollow Knight and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. A new Metroidvania coming to Switch 2 now looks to be bringing its own vibrant spin on the genre's 3D games.

As reported by NintendoLife, French studio Sol Brothers officially revealed Maseylia: Echoes of the Past as a gorgeous new Metroidvania coming to Switch 2. The game features a variety of vibrant and colorful environments from dense forests to bizarre twisted locales, featuring a mix of natural scenery and high-tech structures. Sol Brothers shared that the game will focus on "open-ended exploration" and platforming, teasing abilities ranging from "phasic transformation" to altering the environment to uncover hidden secrets. Maseylia: Echoes of the Past is currently scheduled to launch sometime in 2026.

Indie 3D Metroidvania Maseylia: Echoes of the Past Coming to Switch 2

Maseylia's upcoming release on Switch 2 joins an already stacked lineup of games planned for the year following the Switch 2's release. 2026 will welcome the release of FromSoftware's new original IP coming to the Switch 2, with The Duskbloods launching as an action RPG focused heavily on its multiplayer elements. The Switch 2's 2026 roster is also set to welcome Starseeker as a spin-off of popular space sandbox game Astroneer, alongside the highly-anticipated release of Enter the Gungeon 2.

Maseylia: Echoes of the Past will look to capitalize on its unique and breathtaking artstyle to stand out from a growing genre of Metroidvania games. Hollow Knight has stood as one of the pinnacles of the genre since its release in 2017, with the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong scheduled to finally release later this year. The Metroid franchise is also expected to finally debut its next major game, with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launching in the second half of 2025. Maseylia: Echoes of the Past will aim to carve out its own niche in one of gaming's most beloved genres.
