If the latest rumors are to be believed, a remaster of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes could be releasing for the Nintendo Switch within the next four months. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes was originally released for the GameCube in 2004 before making its way to the Wii as part of Metroid Prime Trilogy. Metroid Prime 2 was also playable on the Wii U through Metroid Prime Trilogy thanks to the console's eShop featuring Wii games.

Nintendo still has not made any official announcements about any plans to bring Metroid Prime 2 to the Switch, so fans should keep their expectations in check. However, leaker Samus Hunter has recently claimed that Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is likely releasing between Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition in 2025. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is releasing in January, while Xenoblade Chronicles X is launching in March. That means February 2025 would be the likeliest month for a Metroid Prime 2 Switch drop, assuming this supposedly leaked information is accurate.

Metroid Prime 2 Rumored for Switch

As for when the potential Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Switch port will be announced, Samus Hunter suggested that the reveal could take place at The Game Awards 2024 on December 12. Assuming Nintendo is planning on bringing Metroid Prime 2 to Switch as has long been rumored, fans can't rule out the possibility that it will be shadow dropped. Metroid Prime: Remastered was shadow dropped, after all, and so the same could happen with other Metroid Prime games.

Chances are good that Nintendo is going to host a Nintendo Direct in February, so if that's the case, perhaps Metroid Prime 2's Switch port will be announced then. Then again, it's been suggested by leakers that the Nintendo Direct in February will be focused more on third-party games, and if that's the case, then Metroid Prime 2 would be out of place.

Time will tell if and when Metroid Prime 2 ever comes to the Nintendo Switch, but 2025 should be a big one for franchise fans regardless. While it's still unclear if Metroid Prime 2 is coming to the Switch next year, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is launching in 2025, barring any unexpected release date delays, of course.
