Metro Awakening is the latest entry in the popular Metro franchise, which is based on the works of Dmitry Glukhovsky. It is the first entry in the series to be based in VR, which is ideal for the immersive and mysterious atmosphere that Metro is known for. Combining stealth and survival mechanics, players will have to navigate their way through a hostile environment populated with humans, mutants and supernatural entities alike.

Despite the fact that VR games are typically shorter than usual, Metro Awakening still offers players a story of considerable length, though its linearity is more akin to the earlier titles like Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light rather than the more open-world exploration of Metro Exodus. Here's how much playtime gamers can expect to have.

Interview: Metro Awakening Writer Talks VR Prequel, Movies, and Immersion

The Best War Games sits down with Metro series author Dmitry Glukhovsky about the upcoming VR game Metro Awakening and the series as a whole.

How Long Is Metro Awakening?

Players can expect to take roughly 6-7 hours to complete Metro Awakening's main story, which is a fairly substantial length for a VR title. Those looking for an additional challenge can also attempt the game on Hardcore difficulty, which is likely to increase the overall length. Throughout the game, there are many interactive items and a total of 33 postcards which can be collected for an additional achievement. A 100% completionist on maximum difficulty could potentially take between 10-14 hours.

Whether for long-time fans of the Metro series or for players who are seeking a high-quality, immersive VR game, Metro Awakening is sure to deliver a memorable experience. Looking to the future, it also seems that either a live-action or animated film project could be in the works for the series.

Metro Awakening is purely a VR game and requires a VR headset to play. The game is designed to be compatible with all VR headsets, including early Quest models and PSVR.
