The first dungeon in Metaphor: ReFantazio takes place in the Nord Mines. This is part of the main story, so players will have to face soldiers and other monsters, some of whom will be at a higher level than the protagonist. As players progress through the mines, they will reach Homo Fulquilo, a boss who is guarding a Magla crystal.

After defeating the boss, the protagonist will encounter the Fire Dragon Mauna. This guide includes details on Fire Dragon Mauna and strategies for beating it to get the rewards.

Players can progress through the main story in quite a lengthy Metaphor: ReFantazio demo that transfers their safe file once the game officially releases.

Despite being made by Atlus, Metaphor ReFantazio makes a number of design choices that differentiate it from the developer's Persona series.

Should You Fight Fire Dragon Mauna?

Should You Fight Fire Dragon Mauna In Metaphor ReFantazio

Fire Dragon Mauna appears inside a large room with two exits. Upon first arriving here, your allies will advise against fighting the Dragon as the fight can be pretty challenging. On both sides of the arena are a few monsters roaming around who can cause a ruckus if they see you. The safer option to follow is sneaking through any one of the paths and exiting the mine. However, the boss fight is not as challenging as your allies may lead you to believe.

Players must ensure that all party members have full health and have at least 50 MP. This is because the boss can deal 75 damage per turn, even on normal difficulty. This will be your last encounter in the mines, and the rewards for the fight will make this a worthwhile effort. Players with no healing consumables and low health might have no option but to sneak past the boss.

The starting skills you choose during the enlisting process do not matter much in this fight, as the difference is barely noticeable later in the game.

How To Beat Fire Dragon Mauna In Metaphor: ReFantazio

For the Fire Dragon Mauna fight, players need at least one Mage Archetype in their party. This is because the boss is weak against Ice Attacks. If you bought Ice Chunks, an item that deals 100 Ice damage, from the Peddler, you must use them throughout the fight to get additional turns off the boss's weakness break.

If you have a Warrior Archetype, you must keep them on the front line while everyone else in your party can step back to take less damage. Fighting the boss on the Hard difficulty adds a new attack to the boss's kit, which can be pretty annoying to recover from.

Players with a high Agility Stat have a higher chance of hitting their Ice and normal attacks on the boss.

The boss's first attack is Scratch, in which the Dragon attacks one member of your party with a claw attack. This can deal 75-100 damage to party members who are on the front row. The second attack is the Fireball, which also targets a single party member. If you have a Seeker Archetype in your party, you might find this fight rather difficult because Seekers are weak to Fire, and the boss can favor from this.

If you are playing on Hard difficulty, the boss has an extra attack called the Tail Swipe. This damages all party members in a row. The boss performs this twice, attacking the front and back row. The optimal party for Hard difficulty is one Mage and two Warriors.

Players keen on using the Seeker Archetype in the fight can use the Tarukaja on the Mage to increase their Ice damage to the boss.

Fire Dragon Mauna Rewards

After defeating the Dragon, players can collect the three items in the small arena and also open the chest to find the following things:

  • Dragon's Indignation (Greatsword for Warrior Archetype)
  • 1,000 Money
  • 1,000 MAG
  • Amethyst
  • Onyx
  • Glossy Fur
  • Grand Iron

After the fight, players can pick a Cushy Clay item from the right path of the boss and head forward to exit the mine after a running sequence when crossing the bridge. Upon leaving the mine, you can save your game before proceeding further into the story.
