After beating the game once, players can choose to start another playthrough with the New Game Plus mode in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Although there's still a lot of content that needs your attention before you confront the final boss, you can always end that playthrough and start New Game Plus mode to experience all the new content it has to offer.

There might be lingering questions in your mind about what carries over to the new playthrough — is there enough content to justify a re-run of the game at all? To answer these questions, this guide details everything there is to know about the New Game Plus mode in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

What's New In Metaphor: ReFantazio's New Game Plus

For the New Game+ mode to feel enticing, it must offer players something new that's worthwhile to invest another 80+ hours in the game.

Starting the New Game Plus for Metaphor: ReFantazio will unlock the new difficulty, Regicide, for the game. This is the highest difficulty for the game, meant for only the most battle-hardened of players.

Regicide mode is difficult in two different ways:

  • The enemies take less damage and instead do increased damage against the player.
  • The damage output of the player is reduced against enemies.

Apart from the new difficulty setting, players will also be able to face off against a secret super boss called "Redscale Apocalypse Dragon." It's only available in the New Game Plus mode, and players can access it after interacting with a book in Akademeia called "The Book of Apocalypse."

Don't expect to beat this dragon boss as soon as you start the game. It is meant to be a challenge for the players to work toward in their new playthrough and overcome once they're ready.

What Carries Over To New Game Plus Mode In Metaphor: ReFantazio?

Metaphor ReFantazio What Carries Over To New Game Plus

Players will be glad to know that the New Game Plus mode doesn't discard all the player's effort from the previous playthrough. Most of the progress will be carried over to the NG+ playthrough for Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Here's a list of everything that carries over to the New Game+ for Metaphor: ReFantazio.

  • All the accumulated MAG and currency (reeve).
  • Items in Inventory during your first playthrough.
  • All your leveled-up Royal Virtue Stats.
  • You'll have to unlock all Archetypes again, but once unlocked, their levels will be carried over from the previous playthrough.
  • Enemy Knowledge will also carry over, giving you important data on previously scanned enemies in the new playthrough.
  • Memorandum will also bring over all your collected notes in the NG+ mode.
  • If you've missed a few Golden Beetles, you'll be able to continue collecting the missed ones in the new playthrough.

Follower bond ranks are the only thing that doesn't carry over to the New Game Plus mode. You'll have to redo all the quests or favors after meeting followers to rank them up. This gives players the choice to go in a different direction in terms of prioritizing follower bonds, allowing the playthrough to feel unique.
