Metaphor: ReFantazio Fans in Other Countries Have Entirely Different Character Preferences
The newly shared popularity chart doesn't apply globally. On the contrary, a similar poll organized by Atlus SEA suggests that Metaphor: ReFantazio fans outside of Japan have entirely different character preferences. Players from Southeast Asia have hence voted for Hulkenberg as their favorite character, placing her six spots higher on their list compared to their Japanese peers. Heismay ranks second in Atlus SEA's popularity poll, even though the character didn't crack the top five in Japan. Strohl completes the top three. Although both of the polls were hosted by region-specific Atlus branches, they were not geographically restricted, leaving room for potential brigading to influence the results.
The discrepancy between the two sets of results is a testament to the sheer diversity of the game's cast, which includes a wide variety of memorable characters. As is the case with the 3D Persona games, Atlus strived to fill the Metaphor: ReFantazio cast with as many compelling characters as possible in a bid to motivate players to complete their Social Links—or Bonds, in the new game's jargon.
The critically acclaimed JRPG has passed one million sales within 24 hours of hitting the market in mid-October 2024. Even more players may soon get the chance to experience it, as Metaphor: ReFantazio is rumored to be coming to the Switch 2. Nintendo's next-generation console doesn't have a release date yet, but with hands-on preview events scheduled worldwide between early April and early June, the device is expected to launch between June and November 2025.
