Metaphor: ReFantazio has lots of gameplay changes to keep the game feeling different from other major Atlus titles. When playing on Hard mode, all enemies get an extra press turn icon to further add to the already higher stats, making even the smaller bosses in the game much more challenging.
While the first boss in the game was mostly just an introduction to the Archetype system, players will soon find themselves facing Homo Fulquilo, the first boss that players will need to get creative when facing. While the boss itself poses a challenge, your victory is heavily determined by how you prepare for the fight.
7 Things That Metaphor ReFantazio Does Like Persona
Persona fans will be delighted to discover these similarities between Atlus' long-standing franchise and their upcoming Metaphor: ReFantazio.
How To Prepare For Homo Fulquilo In Metaphor: ReFantazio
- Protagonist - Warrior
- Strohl - Mage
- Grius - Warrior
The Warrior Archetype has a resistance to fire, which is the main element used by the boss and makes those using that Archetype resistant to most of the damage the boss deals. Strohl will need to be a level 2 Mage so that he learns Blizz to exploit the boss's weakness to ice. Outside of the safe room near the boss will be a merchant that sells five Ice Chunks, so buy all five at 270 Reeve a piece.
For the Protagonist and Grius, the Heat Up skill on the Warrior is a major plus if you don't have it and are willing to grind for it, since the bonus stacks with two Warrior Archetypes in your party. None of these Archetypes specialize in healing, so be sure to bring a few healing items, though a proper run of this boss shouldn't require many. Finally, be sure to recover your MP to the max before taking on the boss at full strength.

How To Beat Homo Fulquilo In Metaphor: ReFantazio
Homo Fulquilo has a weakness to ice.
For the first round of the fight, have Strohl use Blizz while the protagonist and Grius use one Ice Chunk a piece. Consider this a free round of damage, as all those attacks will hit the weakness, giving three more press turn icons and letting everyone attack again. Strohl should then use another Blizz while the Protagonist and Grius use Diagonal Slash. On the boss's first turn, they will charge up and target the front row, but only the front row. During your second turn, repeat the free turn of damage, but during your second round of attacks, move everyone to the back row, even though it will reduce the damage of your melee attacks.
The following attack from the boss will miss everyone as it can only hit the front row, and will subsequently end its turn. From here, the rest of the battle should have Strohl using Blizz every turn, Grius using Diagonal Slash, and the Protagonist using healing items when needed and also attacking. Should the Protagonist deal more damage than Grius based on his stats, they can switch roles.
Your only concern will be Strohl taking damage and possibly going down, as the boss will mostly use attack-all fire spells. Grius and the Protagonist will resist the damage and it will take many turns before they even start to show any damage. Rinse and repeat this process and the boss should only last a few turns.
