Finding the best armour, as it is spelled in the game, and the best weapons is important for creating a powerful party in an RPG like Metaphor: ReFantazio. Besides those pieces of equipment, players can also find accessories akin to other RPGs like Atlus’ own Persona series.

Metaphor: ReFantazio - All Difficulty Settings And Differences

There are five difficulty settings in Metaphor: ReFantazio, each making the game progressively harder in certain ways. Here’s the breakdown.

What armour and weapons players can equip depends on classes called Archetypes. However, accessories are not restricted in Metaphor: ReFantazio, except for some personal character ones. Overall, the accessories system gives players fewer restrictions when arming their characters for battle. There’s a lot to find in the early hours, so let’s go through where to get the best accessories and how to use those pieces of equipment strategically.

6 Plague Mask

Prevent Poison

  • Location: Grand Trad (Gloamhall)

The Plague Mask can be purchased at the accessory shop in Grand Trad called Gloamhall. It can only be accessed at night which is a common theme for accessory shops throughout the adventure. The Plague Mask can prevent Poison from infecting the equipped hero.

Gloamhall has accessories that protect against other status ailments too like Paralysis, Hex, Daze, and Forget. It’s best to be prepared for bosses or hunting marks if they are known to inflict a certain status effect. It’s a costly strategy but players should think about investing in four of every stat-preventing accessory that they come across.

5 Phantasmal Doll

Gain An Extra Turn

  • Location: Grand Trad (Gloamhall)

The Phantasmal Doll can also be purchased at Gloamhall but it is a lot speedier than the status-protecting accessories. It also won’t appear right away, but it should pop up around the time players complete the first major dungeon called the Regalith Grand Cathedral. By that time, players may be able to afford it or they could buy it on a discount day.

The Phantasmal Doll will give characters two chances to act during their turn. If all four party members equip this accessory, that doesn’t mean they can act eight times in a row because that would be game-breaking. Instead, it gives the equipped character two extra turns, robbing the natural turn order. While not as good as getting eight turns, it is a good accessory to give someone important in the party like the healer of the group.

4 Penumbra Igniter

Cast Dark Magic On All Enemies

  • Location: Grand Trad (Lycaon Magic Association)

Similar to the Persona series, there are elemental powers that can be used to exploit enemy weaknesses. For example, Bot is a fire-based spell in Metaphor: ReFantazio and it can be learned through the Mage Archetype. Players can learn all sorts of spells from the class-based Archetype system or they can equip accessories called Igniters.

Igniters will bestow characters with one specific spell and the lesser ones can only target one enemy. However, inside the Lycaon Magic Association in Grand Trad, players buy stronger equipment like the Penumbra Igniter which will cast a dark-based spell on all enemies called Mage Underworld. To access this shop, players must first complete the side quest for Brigitta called A Bullish Embargo.

3 Gambler's Jewel

Adds +3 Luck

  • Location: Regalith Grand Cathedral

The Gambler's Jewel, at first, may seem like an innocuous accessory that simply boosts stats. In this case, it will boost the Luck stat by 3 in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Other early examples include the Courier's Anklet which can boost Agility by 3 and the Witch's Earring which can boost Magic by 3.

The Gambler's Jewel is particularly enticing once players unlock the Thief Archetype via the party member named Heismay. This Archetype operates like thieves in other RPGs by allowing players to steal from enemies. Using the Steal command in Metaphor: ReFantazio does not guarantee an item though. Literal Luck is involved and the Gambler's Jewel then can help characters become more successful at stealing from enemies.

2 Twinkling Crystal

Gives +2 To All Stats

  • Location: Abandoned Tomb

The Twinkling Crystal is easily one of the best accessories players can find in the early hours of the game. To get it, players must first embark on the side quest called A Dagger, a Ring, and a Rake in Metaphor: ReFantazio which can be started in the city of Martira. This will take players to the Abandoned Tomb dungeon.

Slay the competition with these brutal weapons.

It’s a good side quest too because it will unlock Alonzo, one of Will’s many Followers. The Twinkling Crystal will increase all stats by 2, giving players an impressive edge in battle. When paired with other equipment like the Brave Guards which can also boost stats by 2, players can create quite the beefy character.

1 Rejuvenation Bell

Restore HP On Every Turn

Rejuvenation Bell accessory in Metaphor ReFantazio
  • Location: Abandoned Tomb

The Rejuvenation Bell can be purchased later on but the first instance it will appear is also in the Abandoned Tomb. This sweet accessory will heal a character on their turn and the amount is minimal. The effect is not going to be as good as a healing spell or an item, but any amount healed during combat could prevent death.

Of course, if things take a turn for the worst in Metaphor: ReFantazio, players can always restart the battle at no extra cost to them. Metaphor: ReFantazio isn’t a Soulslike experience wishing to punish unprepared players. That said, getting accessories like any of the ones listed above, including the Rejuvenation Bell, is a step in the right direction.
