Konami just gave Metal Gear Solid fans cause for celebration, as Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 was officially revealed after months of speculation. The upcoming Metal Gear Solid compilation will include Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, a title that was notoriously exclusive to the PS3 for over a decade.

The reveal came from Konami during the February 12 State of Play broadcast. Along with the upcoming Metal Gear Solid collection, Konami shared more news about some of its other IPs. New entries in the Castlevania and Silent Hill series, Castlevania: Belmont's Curse and Silent Hill: Townfall, were shown off during the broadcast. Additionally, Konami pulled back the curtain on a new JRPG called Rev.Noir, though further details about the project remained elusive. The State of Play concluded with Santa Monica Studio revealing God of War Trilogy Remake and God of War: Sons of Sparta, with the latter shadow dropping today on PS5.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Is Finally Coming to Modern Platforms

Although Konami previously mentioned it was logical for fans to expect another Metal Gear Solid compilation following the success of the first one, fans were told to wait for more information. During the February 12 State of Play, Konami unveiled Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, launching Thursday, August 27. The new compilation includes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and Metal Gear: Ghost Babel. Along with the PS5 version, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 will also arrive on Steam, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 on the same day. Pre-orders for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 are now listed on Steam, starting at $49.99. Some cosmetics for MGS4 and Peace Walker are included as a pre-order bonus. Players with game save data from Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will be granted additional cosmetics. Digital books and a soundtrack will also be bundled with the compilation.

Originally launched in June 2008, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was the final mission for Metal Gear series protagonist Solid Snake. Following the events of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Solid Snake (also called Old Snake) experiences rapid aging and is given only a year to live. Snake is then tasked by Col. Campbell to terminate his brother, Liquid Snake, who possessed the body of Revolver Ocelot and assumed the name "Liquid Ocelot" after the Big Shell Incident. However, Guns of the Patriots was exclusive to Sony's third home console for over 17 years, with fans often calling for the PS3 title to get a modern release. The upcoming port will offer additional features for Metal Gear Solid players to consider, including button remapping and a higher frame rate.

Two Portable Metal Gear Solid Titles Also Join the Fray

Along with the re-release of MGS4, the upcoming Master Collection will also include Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, a 2010 PSP title that features Solid Snake's "father," Big Boss, as the lead character. Peace Walker is considered one of the Metal Gear Solid franchise's best games. The upcoming port of Peace Walker will also have online co-op for two to four players, along with a competitive six-player mode. Konami clarified that this new port of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker would be based on the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection version, which was released in 2011 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Button remapping will be available for players to utilize as needed.
