Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will feature a Snake vs. Bomberman mode exclusive to the Xbox Series X/S. The feature was revealed in the remake's latest trailer, which also showcased a varied assortment of new MGS Delta: Snake Eater gameplay footage.

The original version of MGS3: Snake Eater included a Snake vs. Monkey mode. Behind this self-explanatory name was a mini-game inspired by Sony's Ape Escape series. The quirky feature was omitted from the 3DS-exclusive Snake Eater 3D and the multi-platform Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, both released in 2012. It was also absent from the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection version of Snake Eater. However, Konami previously confirmed that Snake vs. Monkey will return in MGS Delta—though not on all platforms.

While the Ape Escape-inspired MGS Delta mode unsurprisingly won't be available on the Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft's current-gen consoles will be getting a replacement in the form of Snake vs. Bomberman. Revealed in a June 12 gameplay trailer, the mini-game appears to be identical to Snake vs. Monkey, just with Hudson Soft's famous character in place of the Ape Escape monkeys.

MGS Delta: Snake Eater Will be Bomberman's First Appearance since 2023

The process of deciding on an Ape Escape replacement for the Xbox version of the game possibly came down to identifying a popular character that Konami already owns. As a result, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will mark the bomb-wielding hero's first appearance since the 2023 Super Bomberman R 2.

Although it will skip the Xbox Series X/S, Snake vs. Monkey is still set to make its multi-platform debut in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, with Konami confirming that the mode will be available on both the PS5 and PC. Assuming that the MGS3 remake stays true to the original Snake Eater, its Snake vs. Monkey/Bomberman mini-games won't be available from the get-go, and will instead require players to beat the main story at least once on any difficulty. The original also included the Monkey Mask and Banana Camo unlocks, which were earned by completing all stages and reaching specific high score thresholds, respectively.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is presently scheduled for release on August 28. The remake of the 2004 tactical espionage game can already be pre-ordered across all of its target platforms, starting at $69.99. A $79.99 Digital Deluxe Edition is also offered, featuring six exclusive uniforms, two face camos, and a pair of silly animal masks. While the higher-tier edition does not lock any content from the original game behind an extra paywall, the mere existence of this Sneaking DLC Pack has drawn criticism from some vocal fans.
