Summary

  • Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater brings improvements like a quick camo system and over-the-shoulder shooting.

  • New modes like Snake vs Monkey will be included, with more to be revealed for the PS5, Xbox, and PC versions.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was released on the PS2 in 2004 and quickly gathered a good amount of reviews. As a prequel, it reset the status of the series, allowing anyone to enter. The game received various updates across different systems from the 3DS version to the HD remasters on PS3, but now there is a full remake on the way.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater was first teased in 2023 and is set to arrive in August. Whether it gets delayed or not, like Grand Theft Auto 6, let’s go through the confirmed features to build hype for its eventual release.

7 The Camo System

A Quicker System

One of the big gameplay hooks of the original game was dressing Snake in various camouflage outfits to improve his stealth. Dressing in dark clothes at night would improve his invincibility from enemies, and dressing like a muddy pile would hide him if he were to lie in mud.

While the menu still exists, there is now a quick menu players can access via the D-Pad to swap between a few camouflage patterns at a time. This should improve the gameplay by removing a lot of the tedium of costume changes.

6 Gunplay Improvements

Over The Shoulder Shooting

Fighting Shagohod in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater

There were two main ways players could shoot in the PS2 versions of the game. They could shoot from the hip, which made it hard to aim, or players could go into a first-person perspective to guide their bullets. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has adapted to many modern games now, as there is now an over-the-shoulder camera perspective.

7 Crazy Things Kojima Promised Would Be In MGS5 (& Weren't)

Kojima made some crazy promises during MGS5's development. Fans were eager for these, but sadly never got them in the game.

It also appears that Snake can move while in this camera angle, giving players more mobility while in a fight. The first-person perspective still exists as well if players prefer to play the game more like an FPS, at least during gun battles.

5 Snake Can Crouch

Get Low, Get Low

Crouching in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater

Fans of the original game may have forgotten that Snake only had two ways of getting around. He could walk tall on both legs, or he could go prone to crawl around. That was it, but since the original was released, more games in the series have given Snake and other characters the ability to crouch walk.

Crouching is now implemented in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which should help with stealth. It’s amazing how many features the original game didn’t have as a stealth game in the early 2000s that are so standard now.

4 CQC And Holding Enemies Hostage

Make ‘Em Talk

Holding up an enemy in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater

CQC was a new mechanic in the original game, which was just a fancier form of melee combat. It was tricky to master, but those who got deep into the gameplay could pull off some wild moves. One of the best uses of CQC was disarming enemies and holding them hostage.

Players could then press enemies to talk, which could lead to secret information about the story mission or where to find optional content like items. This integration mechanic is back in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater as seen in the trailers.

3 A Small Codec Tweak

Let’s Hear About Godzilla

Activating the codec in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater

One of the most unique gameplay elements of the series, dating back to the original game, was the Codec system. This allowed characters to talk with their support team. They can learn about the mission, bosses, save, or just shoot the breeze with random info about pop culture.

The original Godzilla movie, for example, was a classic conversation in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Like the quick access camouflage menu, the Codec system can now be accessed with the D-Pad in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The Codec presentation still looks the same, though, and hasn’t been gussied up, which is a bit of a shame.

2 Same Audio, Different Graphics

Relive Your Childhood EXACTLY

Snake in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater

Another thing players will probably notice about the audio from most of the trailers is how identical it sounds to the original game. That’s because it is the same dialogue audio, and as of now, it is not known if the original voice cast re-recorded any new lines for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

Metal Gear-0
Metal Gear: 10 Characters You Didn’t Know Were Cut From The Series

Just how many character were cut from the Metal Gear franchise, and why were they even cut in the first place?

There are new modes, so it is possible that David Hayter, the voice of Naked Snake, did get into the recording booth at some point. Regardless of what could be new, for some, that original script was golden, making this remake all the more exciting to have better visuals with just cleaner audio.

1 Snake vs Monkey

And More To Come

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence was a re-release on the PS2, which added new things, including Snake vs Monkey, a mini-game wherein Snake tried to find various apes from the Ape Escape franchise. This mode will be returning in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater but only in the PS5 and Steam versions.

On the homepage, there is a teaser image of an outline of Bomberman, which will be exclusive to the Xbox Series X/S versions of the game. The webpage also says more gameplay modes will follow, so what those are is anyone’s guess. It should be noted that Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence did have a versus multiplayer mode as well, so perhaps that could be it.
