Major spoilers ahead for Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater!

8 Para-Medic

Snake's Trusty Movie-Loving Medical Adviser

  • Voiced by (English): Heather Halley
  • Voiced by (Japanese): Houko Kuwashima

The Para-Medic is a goofy side character who doesn't get much screen time, but has plenty to say when she features in codec calls. The Para-Medic serves as a helpful aid to Snake, letting him know how to treat his injuries and which mushrooms might end up charging his batteries. While the Para-Medic might seem sweet, and it's endearing to hear her talk about her love of movies to a soldier who's not much of a cinephile, there's far more to Para-Medic's character later down the line. Her feature in Operation Snake Eater shows her as a youthful aid, but those who play beyond Snake Eater will realize that Para-Medic has an evil streak to her that shows her development in the series.

7 The End

The Ancient Sniper Who Begs for One Last Hunt

  • Voiced by (English): J. Grant Albrecht
  • Voiced by (Japanese): Osamu Saka

The End is one of the COBRAs featured in Operation Snake Eater, and while there are other members worth mentioning, the End is easily the most interesting of them all. Not only is his boss fight the most fun and challenging, but the End himself is a character worth diving into. This sniper is over 100 years old, and his ability to use photosynthesis ensures he has the strength for one last hunt. The End sleeps for a lifetime, waiting to spend what's left of his beating heart in a battle against someone worthy. He's weird, interesting, and easily the most interesting of the COBRAs.

6 Zero

FOX's Commanding Officer Who Helps Snake

  • Voiced by (English): Jim Piddock
  • Voiced by (Japanese): Banjo Ginga

Major Zero may have a forced hand in Operation Snake Eater to avoid the firing squad due to how disastrous the virtuous mission went after the Boss' betrayal, but that doesn't make him any less of an unwilling ally. Zero does what he can for Snake, offering advice and aid whenever possible to see the completion of Operation Snake Eater. Zero's English charm is noted, and while he doesn't have much screen time, he's still an essential presence in the plot, and his future in the series is something that makes him a worthy character to invest in. Zero's early ties to FOX and his role as a friend to enemy to Big Boss show how allegiances and war can change, which is why a look back into this character's past after knowing his future makes his role that much more of a tragic tale.

5 Volgin

Russia's Most Sadistic Colonel

  • Voiced by (English): Neil Ross
  • Voiced by (Japanese): Kenji Utsumi

Volgin is a textbook villain, a man with no allegiance to anyone or anything but his own personal gain. Volgin's masterful plan to get power sees him use and abuse others, and his sadistic tendencies make him a masochist, a man who enjoys the torture and pain of others by his own fists. As a brutal fighter and a man who seems impervious to death itself, Volgin is directly responsible for the bleeding tensions between America and Russia, and he seems not to care about the fallout, so long as he's the one standing on top. He's ruthless, pure evil, and a man who needs to be taken care of.

4 EVA

The Secret Agent Who Knows How to Get What She Wants

  • Voiced by (English): Jodi Benson
  • Voiced by (Japanese): Misa Watanabe

EVA is the special agent involved in Operation Snake Eater who has unknowing ties to an unknown country. While Snake can't trust her, he's left with no choice when she becomes his only ally in the field. An expert driver and shooter, EVA proves that she's more than just a pretty face, which is something that Snake can't help but fall for. EVA becomes integral to the mission, not only for her ties to Sokolov and Volgin, but for the way Snake begins to fall for her. EVA's charisma is wonderful to see, and her combat prowess is something that makes her worth fearing and never underestimating.

3 Ocelot

A Triple Agent Who Will Never Quit

  • Voiced by (English): Josh Keaton
  • Voiced by (Japanese): Takumi Yamazaki

Ocelot can be summed up in a few words: pretty good. While his youthful gimmick of acting like an Ocelot with his ambitions and meows might seem a tad odd, he should never be underestimated. He's a skilled fighter, a fast learner, and a great shot. Ocelot's fascination with Snake is charming, and his deduction skills have him as the only agent during Operation Snake Eater who has any clue as to what's actually going on. He's smart and charismatic, but always winning to cause a black streak on his record if it means he gets what he wants. Ocelot manages to learn CQC simply by observing Snake, and he's always playing both sides, so he comes out on top, proving his legendary status outside of the gleam of his spinning revolvers.

2 Naked Snake

A Field Operative Forever Changed by War

  • Voiced by (English): David Hayter
  • Voiced by (Japanese): Akio Otsuka

Naked Snake commenced his virtuous mission to extract his target from a Russian jungle, only for everything to go wrong when his mentor seemingly betrayed him. Snake returned to the same forest a week later with a new mission: kill the Boss and destroy the Shagohod. Snake's devotion to his mission is truly a tragedy, and his constant confusion and need to ask questions show how misplaced and unwilling he is to kill the woman who was more than just a mentor to him. Snake sacrificed an eye for this mission, but more importantly, he sacrificed his loyalty and beliefs. The actions of Operation Snake Eater molded Snake into the perfect soldier, but it also molded new loyalties outside of the interests of America. Snake endured so much throughout Operation Snake Eater, and his unwillingness to quit, even when beaten to near death each time, only further proved his strength.

1 The Boss

A Living Legend, Reviled by History for Her Loyalty

  • Voiced by (English): Lori Alan
  • Voiced by (Japanese): Kikuko Inoue

The Boss is arguably the greatest American soldier to have ever lived, and she's the reason that Naked Snake is inspired to do the things that he does in the series going forward. Not only is the Boss the creator of CQC, but she's a deciding factor in the Allied victory of WW2 thanks to her skills and her COBRA Unit. Loyal to the end, the Boss will do anything for her country as a true patriot, even if that means being hated by the world as a disgraced memory, with a few, if any, knowing the truth. The Boss is one of the greatest female characters in gaming for a reason. Her tragic story is of immense heartbreak, but she fights to the bitter end to carry out her mission, to be the one true Boss.
